Own tags in filenames, which Infuse should ignore

Hi guys,

I want to include my own tags in the filenames, something like (4K, IMAX, DV etc.), BUT I don’t want to confuse Infuse with that. How should I do that?
Right now my filename is like:
Folder “The Dark Knight (2008)”
→ File “The Dark Knight (2008).mkv”

I would like add some tags in the filename, for example like this:
→ File “The Dark Knight (2008) (4K/DV/IMAX).mkv”

Can I do that without problems in Infuse? Or any other suggestions?

Use the edition tagging syntax:

Yeah, but I would like to add custom tags - which are not listed in the article - and don’t break Infuse. Just on a filename level.

Try something like this:

The Dark Knight (2008) {edition-4K/DV/IMAX}.mkv

I will try that out today and give a feedback.

Did you by chance read the section in the article that @munpip214 linked to that says

You can also add custom tags using the ‘edition’ tag in the filename, in this format.

Get Out (2017) {edition-Regular Ending}.mp4
Get Out (2017) {edition-Alternate Ending}.mp4

Yeah, I’m going to try that out later.

With regard to matching for movies most everything included after the year will be ignored. Some exceptions are edition and identification tags as described in the guide.

Also, most general terms such as HDR, 4K, 720p, etc… are ignored as well.

So my file is named:
“The Dark Knight Rises (2012) {edition-IMAX}”
(I know, IMAX seems not to be a custom tag)
Where will the edition (IMAX) be shown in Infuse?

OK understood. However how can I apply custom tags in the folder names for TV shows etc., because I don’t want to add for example “4K” to every episode, instead I would like to add 4K to the TV show folder name (for example “Game of Thrones (2011) (4K)”.

I’ve seen this create problems often with Infuse and causing artwork to not work or be correct. Deviating from just the series name (and year if needed) or adding to season folder names other than the “01”, “02” etc have caused problems.

If you can manage your file naming on a Mac you can rename all of the series files in just a minute or two using the built in renaming option.

Custom tags are visible on the details page when you have multiple versions of the same video in your library.

Custom tags are unique to each file but only needed if you have multiple copies of the same title. The actual resolution will always be shown on the details page regardless of whether you have a custom tag or not. Also, these are only available for movie titles at this time.

So how can I apply that to a TV show folder? I don’t want to add custom tags to every single episode. Any suggestion?

Yeah, I know, but I would prefer to rename my TV show folder so I can see directly, which version a show is (like HD, 4K, DV etc.).
Any suggestion?

Doesn’t work with tv shows at this time, unfortunately

How are you navigating your movies in Infuse? Are you doing it through the library, because if so, then the details page will show if the movie is 4K or Dolby vision, etc.

Yeah through library. However I’m not interested in tags being display within Infuse, I just want to add some specific tags in the folder name of a TV show, so I can see directly on a file/folder level which quality a show is. But I don’t want to confuse Infuse with those tags.

How about this, create an upper level directory for each tag and have the sub directories like TV Shows for each.

Then you could just add the custom tagged directory as a fav and leave the file names and show folders alone so infuse can work with them.

Hm, I don’t like that. I like to have all my shows in one root folder.
I tried a little bit and it seems that I can go with for example:

->“Game of Thrones (FHD)”
–>“Season 01”
—> “S01E01 - Episodetitle
—> .
—> .
—> -
→ “Season 2”
.
.
.
->“Fallout (4K, DV)”
–>“Season 01”
—> “S01E01 - Episodetitle
—> .
—> .
—> -
→ “Season 2”
.
.
.

So far no issue, Infuse recognize all shows normally and I’m happy that I can see the tags in the file/foldernames.

Was just trying to save you any problems down the line. If you’re not having problems then go for it.
