Option to remove Director from First Position in "CAST and Crew"

Hoping for an option to get back to “Cast and Crew” instead of “Director, Cast and Crew”

Personally, I rarely if every care who directs especially in TV show episodes.

I agree that the Director credit isn’t ideal where it is, but neither was it well-placed where it used to be. Perhaps the best spot for this credit is, like every other platform does, up under the title?

Also point taken about TV episodes – in TV it’s the producer more than the director who exercises creative control – but in film the director is the #1 auteur whose vision crafts the product, and their credit deserves top status.

I was one of the people in support of taking the director’s name out of the very end of the “cast and crew” section - for movies, at least, the director is extremely important, and I hated that they were hidden so far back.

Yet I agree that having the director in the first “cast and crew” spot is also a bit weird, and not like any other video platform out there.

Would it be possible to do what seems like the most sensible thing and put the director’s name closer to the movie title, as many other platforms do? This obviously would require some UI work, but it seems like the best of both worlds. See example below:

For me, the primary reason for the cast and crew list is to look up the actor in the role, generally during or after I watch a movie. Specifically for movies, I already know who the director is, or it’s of a movie that I don’t care, so by putting the director first just adds scrolling for me. For tv shows, definitely more interested in the actors than anything else.

I see director first thing when checking cast. I thought it was a bug and would be fixed. It’s still there.

Of all the good suggestions given, this is a strange one to pick and add. I hope it’s removed from the first and put back where it belongs.

I moved your post to an already running suggestion thread requesting this feature.

It should be put where it belongs. Which is the only thing anyone has ever asked to happen. But where it belongs is not at the end of the cast list, in the spot of lowest billing. Where the director credit belongs, and which is where every other platform in the world puts the director, is right up under the title, above the actors.

I don’t know why infuse made this change, but it is not because the whole world thinks the director is above the actors. I could not find anywhere the director is listed first under the cast and crew. Even in the name cast and crew the cast comes first.

Hope it is changed back unless infuse hates to admit they made a mistake here.

no one has ever said that the director should be listed alongside cast and crew. director should properly be high above the cast and crew, listed up with the title and year. plex emby jellyfin criterion … they ALL do this. We’ve been through all this for a long time now, with screenshots and everything, over at Cast/Crew Order - Director - #19 by jm9760 …

Thank you for agreeing that director should not be first under cast and crew. That was my point. I don’t care where infuse sticks the director, but not under cast as he is not part of the cast.

Yes and that’s the whole point. He’s not part of the cast. He actually chooses and directs the cast. He belongs a level above.

The directors have you to support them, but there are people who disagree. The problem solving would be to have a choice for how to sort them without creating an area for actors, producers, directors and writers.

Infuse users who don’t care about directors but care who are acting in the movie get upset when infuse does something wrong by giving first spot to smaller names in the cast area. We want main actors first like it’s always been. Some changes are not better.

Yes. A separate space for the directors producers and writers. Lots of platforms do that.

The thing is, while the actors may have a lot of star power, they are under the direction of the director. It’s right there in the name, and when I google a film, the very first thing it tells me in the sidebar before I’ve even selected a link is “directed by”. And when I click any of those links for the film, be it imdb or wikipedia or letterboxd or bfi or wherever… the director always gets top billing, over and above the cast he directs.

Interestingly, rottentomatoes does exactly what infuse now does, and puts the director first in the same row as the actors, which is the same annoyance we’re discussing here.

Every platform. Every website. It’s not a coincidence. The director is the primary creative force behind a film. The actors take their directions from him. He gets top billing every single time.

FWIW I fully agree that television doesnt work this way. I’m only talking about film. I wonder it there might be a way for infuse to disentangle the two for this angle?

We agree the current way does not work, infuse needs to come up with a better solution as this one was a mistake. Leaving as is or putting it back does not fix this.

No matter what changes Infuse makes, there will always be someone dissatisfied with this matter. Why not put things to more meaningful functions?

Because easily accessing basic information, such as “who made this film?” is a meaningful function

Why not put things to more meaningful function?

I don’t know what is more meaningful than keeping your app users happy.

Letting these little things grow into big issues is not the way to go. Infuse has a few little issues that they seem to ignore. This is just another one.

Infuse can’t please everyone but the more they do please, the better for everyone.

Interesting debate.

director should be first for movies, and last for series. Haha
