No AI upscaling in Apple TV?

Will be never possible to have the new AI video upscaling with Apple TV too?

only if the appletv receives a CPU upgrade.

This new feature is available on devices which include an A16 (and later) and all M-series chips. There is not currently an Apple TV device that features a new enough chip, but presumably the next model will include one that is able to support these features.

Generally you want the TV to take this job as it is really designed to do the upscaling for you. Just my 2 cents. But indeed for AppleTV to do it, it requires a hardware upgrade.

not necessarily, it depends which is better at upscaling. often the TV is not better, and almost certainly won’t have any sort of AI upscaling unless the TV is fairly new.

i would concede, though, that it’s unusual you’d want an individual app to do it. you’d either want the playback device or the TV to do it, not the app.

Unfortunately, the Apple TV has a fixed output resolution, so regardless of the original resolution of the video, it sends a 4K signal to the tv, for instance.

not if you set the output resolution to 1080p, in that instance it wouldn’t send a 4k signal to the TV

I think @munpip214 was just saying that the ATV has a static output resolution depending on what resolution is set in the prefs. It won’t dynamically change resolutions depending on videos.

Yes you can do that, but you would have to manually change it as you go between different video resolutions.

This is a real pain. We need this.

it’s a hardware limitation. nothing you or firecore can do about it.
