Need some guidance,

I just bought an ATV2 with 4.2.1 (4.3) installed. I want to jailbreak and throw XBMC on it.

The interwebs is a little overwhelming and with all of the different versions and instructions out there, could use some help.

I have followed this thread here: JB ATV2 with 4.4.4 installed - after apple stopped signing - Seas0nPass - Firecore

I got to step 14 where I have the iFaith ipsw firmware with signed blobs and custom seasonpass ipsw inside.

Next step says “use iReb to enter DFU mode” … What is iReb?

Once in DFU mode I just need to use iTunes to load up the custom ipsw and do an untethered jailbreak?

Then I can follow the XBMC install guide?

I just wanted to make sure this info was relevant to my version before I brick it!

i think you have a jailbreakable version. so no need for the blobs i used this earlier todayhttp://support.firecore.com/entries/387605

When I use that guide, Seas0nPass tries to load up 4.4.4 and iTunes throws up “The Apple TV could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (3194).”

Any other ideas?

did the same with me . tried it again. the third time it work flawlessly

When you open iFaith and click Ok on the disclaimer you are presented with 4 buttons…

  • Build *signed* IPSW w/ BLobs
  • Dump SHSH Blobs
  • Show Available SHSH Caches on Server
  • Use DFU Pwner (iREB)

Use the bolded button to run iREB. iREB puts the device into a special DFU mode to allow jailbroken software to run.

Apple has stopped signing version 4.4.4. The error 3194 means that the device is not eligible for the requested version. In other words unless you have the SHSH Blobs backed up for that version it is a no go.

Matty, thanks for the tip! After that just use iTunes per the guide then I’m set?

Assuming you have followed the guide fully then yes.
