Muddy audio quality in Infuse vs clear on Plex with Apple TV

Hi. I’ve recently subscribed to Infuse as I’ve heard good things about its support for various types of playback on Apple TV.

I’ve noticed there’s a huge degredation in audio quality when playing some files in Infuse compared to Plex. The sounds through Infuse are muffled, have lost their brightness, and are missing what feels like most of the mid-range. Almost like there’s some channels missing? Sorry, I’m not best experienced to articulate the exact issue. I can provide a recording of the differences if needed. Though I’m not sure if the full effect will be captured on my phone’s microphone.

For one of the files in question, in Plex the file source is Direct Play, Video HEVC and Audio EAC3. Infuse reports the audio track as English - Dolby Digital Plus 5.1.

My setup:

  • LG OLED 55" C3 4LA (webOS 8.2.0-710)
  • Apple TV 4K (tvOS 17.3 21K646)
  • LG S60Q (2.1) Soundbar

Apple TV --[HMDI]--> TV --[HDMI eARC]--> Soundbar (Cinema sound profile)

  • Infuse Client 7.7 (4729)
  • Plex Server
  • Plex Client 8.31 (7837)

What I’ve tried:

  • Played file via SMB share in Infuse.
  • Played file via Plex share in Infuse.
  • Changed LFE in Stereo Downmix and Downmix Volume independently and together.

Here’s the MediaInfo for the file being played.
