Missing 'Cast and Crew' metadata & Metacritic score

For some reason, Infuse no longer fetches all cast and crew images and metadata. When an image changes on TMDb and was previously cached in Infuse, the new image isn’t loaded. Instead, no image is shown at all. Manually updating the metadata doesn’t fix the issue.

It also looks like some films no longer load the available Metacritic score. I’m not sure whether these two issues are connected.

Example: missing cast images and Metacritic score:

Thank you for looking into this.

I’ve just started noticing the missing cast metadata as well. It only happens sometimes, which seems particularly odd to me. When the cast does show up, it won’t show the other things an actor is in when you click on them. For instance, if I click on Rob Mcelhenney (when the cast does show up) on Its Always Sunny, it will show that he’s in that, but the other things he’s in in my library are totally missing.

Hi guys,

I’ve recently noticed across the latest Infuse versions on macOS and tvOS (I haven’t checked iOS) that the cast and crews for items aren’t being loaded properly.

If I add a new piece of media with a particular actor who I know is in a different piece of media on my Jellyfin server, looking at them from the new piece of media just shows that one piece of media. It’s very strange.

My versions are as follows:

  • Jellyfin v10.11.1

  • Infuse 8.3.4

Any ideas?

Thanks

Same for me (missing references from actors to other movies/shows).

I have Jellyfin v10.11.5

Many actor portraits for movies and TV shows I imported into Infuse are missing. TMDB clearly has these actor portraits, but they don’t display in Infuse—though they show up fine in Emby. What could be causing this?

Mine is doing the same thing. I don’t use any nfo files etc… just a simple video file. Like you said, the actor picture shows up on tmdb but Infuse doesn’t seem to pull this information sometimes.

Did you ever fix this mate?

I’ve made a separate post about this but it seems like this might be something to do with a change made to the api of TMDB.

The guy who makes the Chillio IPTV app confirmed this in a Discord message to me and he’s fixing the issue for the next version of the app.

I presume whatever the problem is with the Chillio app is the same issue as the Infuse app as they both scrape data from TMDB.

Ah, that explains what’s going on. The issue is still happening at the moment. Fingers crossed that TMDB will address it if it was an unintended change, or the apps are updated to work with the new API changes.

Hi,

Thank you for coming back to me.

I’m not sure that TMDB view this as a ‘bug’ at their end so I don’t think it will change.

I think the change has to come from the interaction between TMDB and Infuse.

I think I mentioned this previously:- I use both Infuse and Chillio (the latter being an IPTV player). Chillio also draws down all of its metadata from TMDB just like Infuse. Until Chillio tweaked / fixed something in its coding it was exhibiting the same behaviour as Infuse (ie not downloading cast / crew pictures). After I raised the issue with the programmer of Chillio he fixed it in the very next version of the app and it now works perfectly.

Is there a chance someone at Infuse could just take a look at the interaction between Infuse and TMDB to see if, what seems like, a relatively simple tweak could be implemented so that all cast / crew pictures are downloaded?

I only use Infuse on iPad so not sure if the problem persists with other equipment (iphones, appleTV etc). The problem at Chillio only affected iPads specifically - it worked fine on every other device but now works perfectly on every device.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

Kind regards,

Nick

Hi there - for the last few months I’ve noticed that cast/crew pictures are not being consistently downloaded. It’s not just for obscure actors, it’s for many very famous actors. The problem occurs similarly across iOS, Mac ,and Apple TV versions of Infuse. I’ve tried deleting and refreshing meta data but that makes no difference. I don’t use any external services like Plex or Embly(?), I’m using infuse with a NAS drive and connecting via SMB over a pretty fast connection. But the number of files is quite large so I’m wondering if this might cause problems.

Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks and keep up the great work!

I moved your post to a thread discussing this. Note it’s tagged as researching.

It’s also tagged in the upcoming features thread.

Thanks - sorry for not seeing that earlier and thanks also for the superb tech support!

Just letting you know the problem with missing cast photos persists in 8.3.6. Thanks!

Yup, and the thread is still tagged as researching but you can follow this upcoming features thread to see when it may be addressed.

I’ve seen similar topics from a few years ago, but they seem to be related to Plex whereas I am using mega.nz to store my movie backups.

The actors and actresses in question seem to be random as some display and some don’t. I’ve tried refreshing the meta data several times, but this has no impact.

Below are some examples, and at first I just thought it was because these actors didn’t have the any profile picture, but if you view those movies tmdb, their images are there.

This should be resolved in today’s 8.3.7 update.

Thanks for your patience.

It’s working properly now in 8.3.7. Many thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for resolving this. I’ll properly check later but at first glance my Infuse now captures about 80% of cast photos in this version where under the old version it was between 0% - 50% so it’s a massive improvement!

It could be there’s a few cast members without photos, anyway. Would be interesting to hear from anyone else who was experiencing this.

You can check on TMDB to see if they have artwork present for a particular person.

The cast list can be found on the details page for a movie or TV show. For example.

Hi James, I’m still seeing a severely truncated media list for actors who I know are in other pieces of media. I can see them all in Jellyfin. Is this a different problem?
