I’ve just started using Emby and have spent many hours understanding how it can handle organized structured media (TV, Movie folders decently labelled), and how it does not at all handle well mixed content – specifically, a single folder with incoming downloads of a single new episode across 3 shows + a few movies; in this latter setting, for whatever reason, it can’t figure out the mixture of different unrelated specific episodes / titles and parse the file-names to generate the cover-art for the single episodes… Infuse has always done this amazingly well.
Long story short, for my structured/organized Movies and TV folders, Emby’s native metadata pull works well, but for my daily use downloads folder, it’s not able to assign any metadata and just applies a screen-grab. What I really want is Infuse to use its own metadata pull / logic for the downloads folder ONLY (i.e. Library mode), but keep using Emby’s native metadata for my other two Movies & TV Shows folder (i.e. Direct mode). I cannot find a way to designate specific folders on the Emby connection to use Library mode – it’s all or none with Library vs. Direct.
I’ve tried manually adding in a second instance of the same Emby share, but when naming it something different, it just overrides the existing Emby share (same username/pass).
What are my options to get one share folder into Library mode and the others in Direct – do I have to create a new Emby user only with the Download folder so that Infuse can recognize that as a distinct share to apply Library Mode? I can use SMB and manually add the downloads folder, but SMB is terribly slow for some reason (and I don’t want to add SMB access and manage all those permissions apart from Emby).
Is there any way to choose to designate some share folders as Direct vs. others as Library for a specific Emby share user?
Can’t you create a Emby direct share for everything but your DL folder and then create a second share with only the DL folder and make that a library share? You should be able to mix the shares.
I cannot – this is exactly the issue. Infuse only recognizes / permits one share per Emby + Username combination. Whenever I try to add in a second instance of effectively the same Emby share (even when changing the name of the Share from, “My Emby” to “My Emby 2”), it over-writes the first share and just re-names it “My Emby 2”. If I can’t do this, then I’m forced to create a different user within Emby solely with access to the downloads folder just to allow one share to use Library mode w/ the others on Direct
I’m not sure if this is a bug or the intended outcome – that it’s treating a second Emby share with the same username always as a “rename” instead of creating a second instance.
There is no option in setting up an Emby share within infuse to choose which specific folder shares I’m choosing to Sync – it mandates all of them be synced either with the binary Direct or Library option.
EDIT: I think what I’m most disappointed with is Emby’s terrible parsing of file-name logic/rules to draw upon metadata from TVDB, etc. Infuse is FANTASTIC with slicing and dicing a massive pile of filenames to correctly assign it the correct TVDB metadata, whereas Emby really only behaves properly in pulling in TV metadata if it conforms to nested folder naming logic TV Naming | Emby Documentation.
