Media Player on OS X

Hi guys,

I have aTV Flash on the AppleTV in my bedroom and LOVE it. It’s perfect to simply browse and play movies from my NAS. A breeze compared to XBMC which I previously had, and found overly complex. I just wish something like Media Player was available for Mac OS X, so I can have the same simple interface on my TV (with Mac mini) in my living room.

A few years ago I might have gone with MiRow, but with Lion and Mountain Lion I don’t think MiRow is meant for the future (no offense, guys). Tonight I dusted off the awesome Remote Buddy software and tried to get some sort of simple file browser going along with a movie player. To no avail. Either it just treated VIDEO_TS folders as plain folders, or I had to give in to some custom database where I had to add my movies before I could browse them. No thanks. Right now, the Mac mini is running XBMC but that is so complex my wife rather fires up the old DVD player to play DVDs.

You guys are awesome and smart. How much work would it be to port just the Media Player to Mac OS X? Just a simple file browser + movie player. That’s all I need.

I’m currently seriously considering adding an extra AppleTV next to the Mac mini, just so I can run Media Player. However, having everything integrated in one device would be so much better…
