M4v embedded subtitles

I have numerous .M4V files with TX3G subtitles. THey play perfectly in terms of timing via itunes to ATV but of course have that hideous semi transparent box.

In Media Player they can be controlled, but the timings are changed. The subtitles seem to delay on screen. They appear at the right moment but stay on screen too long, unless another line arrives to trigger a change. otherwise they linger for 2 or more seconds. It’s very distracting.

Of course a solution would be to use .SRT in the same directory, however when I do this, although the timings issue is sorted the subtitles now trigger a slight pause of maybe 2/4 frames causing the image to jump - again awfully distracting!

Will subtitles ever be right?

The semi-transparent background has been removed in iOS 6.0 (iPhone, iPad) and iTunes running Mountain Lion

Thanks, I am aware of that - but there are still issues, specifically the size on Apple TV on 2.39:1 titles.

How simple text subtitles could be so problematic is crazy!
