I think it will only play a single stream not an m3u playlist
Since the m3u and m3u8 lists option came out, it never worked.
Today it has been updated and I have used two types of m3u and m3u8 lists offered by the official digital channels.
None of them worked.
I sent the error code in the latest beta version, since if a simple official list does not work it makes no sense to offer it.
The lists, all are compatible if they do not support m3u8 you have the simple m3u.
This system is not like the renaming of movies, they will not use the format that Infuse developers like the most, since it is a list format that has existed for a long time.
The file you show as an example is absurd, no one is going to create it as Infuse wants.
It is Infuse that has to be adapted to the format and if they can’t, don’t put it as an option.
This is not the renaming of a movie or series like put it as S3. E1 here is infuse the one that has to be adapted.
The example you show us in your Dropbox link should be changed from sample.m3u8 to sample.infuse
You wouldn’t need to include all the things shown there, the sample file simply shows what kind of things can be added and will work in the current version of Infuse.
Additional link and stream types will be supported in upcoming versions.
I believe the point he was making isn’t that every single detail from that sample.m3u8 needs to be included, but rather that those are very rare edge cases that roughly 95% of Infuse users won’t ever need and haven’t come up even once in this discussion. These days, M3U is overwhelmingly used for live streaming rather than on-demand video.
Given that almost all the feedback across this nearly decade-long thread has been centered on HLS, IPTV, and Live TV support through M3U playlists, it’s completely understandable why folks feel a bit let down when the focus seems to shift away from the features everyone has been eagerly hoping to see.
At the same time, I truly appreciate that great features take time to build and often need several iterations to get right! It would be wonderful to see future improvements to M3U support prioritize HLS and Live TV, as that seems to be what most of us are excited about. If that isn’t feasible right now, sharing some clear updates and more detailed roadmap insights would go a long way in keeping everyone’s expectations aligned. ![]()
You’re probably right, and I can appreciate that. It’s part of the reason I was hesitant to even add this to the roadmap, since “M3U8 support” is a very broad feature that can be used in many different ways.
Prior to 8.5.6, Infuse didn’t understand M3U8 files at all, so adding the ability to parse these files and handle some of the links they can contain is a first step.
I realize many people use M3U8 files for live streams, which unfortunately isn’t one of the supported use cases yet. It is something we’re hoping to add in an upcoming version.
There isn’t an exact ETA at the moment, as we’re also balancing this work with other highly requested improvements and additions, but there’s a reasonable chance it could arrive sooner rather than later. ![]()
Exactly. I thought the support would be for Live TV, HLS, and IPTV. I think everyone here who’s been talking about it and wants this feature wants it for that reason. But it turns out we don’t have any of that after all. In the end, it was all much ado about nothing, It’s no wonder people here are disappointed and even confused.
@james this thread has been open since Jan 2017. Clearly there’s a lot of demand for such a feature, but I’d argue your response “we’re hoping to add in an upcoming version” isn’t really what everyone wants to hear
Perfect!
But using the m3u and m3u8 standard?
Thank you.
I’m looking at the example file again.
And that format does not exist, it seems that it is a way to use a specific m3u8 file for infuse.
As I said before it doesn’t make sense, for example the mode:
file:///Users/NFS/peacemaker S1.E1.mp4
file:///Users/NFS/peacemaker%20S1.E2.mp4
It’s easier to use the direct to Nas mode and I don’t have to create an m3u8 file for it
In this line:
#EXTINF:-1,Ponies.S1.E1
../Miniseries/Secret Invasion/Secret Invasion.S1.E1.mp4
The same as before I use drobox or nas to reproduce it
This one without xtream I don’t recommend it:
#EXTINF:-1,The Housemaid (2025
#EXTINF:-1,The Housemaid (2025)
https…://www.elecard…com…/storage/video…/TSU_1280x720.mp4
Since anyone could access your files, there are no credentials to not exist the xtream mode, in this case I would use other infuse modes with credentials or jellyfin servers, WebDAV, drobox etc.
What we asked was to be able to use m3u and m3u8 lists that exist on the network, github or wherever, enter it in infuse and that the content is seen either live tv or files on demand.
It’s just an opinion, when I saw the update, I thought I copy and paste the TV list of my country in infuse and without leaving infuse I can watch the TV, videos on demand, vob and even the radio.
But no list worked.
As you say, if it will not be like that, although I really wanted it, I prefer that you focus on improving visually or functionally, in the case that the roadmap is to create a personalized list, it is better to focus on other functions.
Thanks.
Mod Edit for translation:
The development of M3u/m3u8 functionality should focus on live IPTV streaming; otherwise, it won’t be very useful. If Infuse supports live IPTV streaming via M3u, Apple TV boxes could eliminate the need for an IPTV app. This would further increase user reliance on Infuse. Infuse has been constantly imitated, but never surpassed.

Fair enough, I definitely see where you’re coming from.
Because it’s such a wide-ranging feature, using the live-TV APIs from Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby could be a much smoother path to bring live-TV support to Infuse, which is probably what all of us in this thread are after. That way, we simply pass the M3U over to those backends and let them take care of the heavy lifting. Plus, there is already a great, well-defined set of available endpoints that showcase what’s possible.
Of course, since I suggested this feature, I might be a little biased, but it really feels like a win-win that could save you a ton of development effort. You wouldn’t have to spend precious time dealing with all the messy quirks and endless edge cases of raw M3U streams, since the backends handle the standardization for you - all while delivering a fantastic experience that makes everyone happy! ![]()
lol, what is even the point of supporting without IPTV support. Honest question. Is there a single user who will use this as designed? IPTV is like the only thing that actually uses M3U. I’m amazed Infuse team didn’t realize that.
Unfortunately, I think the Firecore team is losing touch with reality. They seem to think they’re still in 2016… These days there´s already apps with very stable players, modern UIs and filled with features Infuse doesn´t have. And they’re improving day by day. Meanwhile, basic features in Infuse take years to be implemented (if they ever are at all), and the UI looks ugly and outdated. And I don’t see any of that changing…
Unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder to stick with Infuse and not switch to another app for good.
I haven’t seen apps on Apple TV that do it all and better. Wonder what apps you mean.
Same here. Other apps look fishy.
They’re on TestFlight. And I didn’t say they’re better. The Infuse player is still king, but the other players are improving a lot. I was even pleasantly surprised by how stable some of them already are.

Chillio app is superb

This! It exactly sums up the situation. they have been dangling this m3u support thing constantly should we shouldnt we and taking their time it looks pathetic. It’s been years the community been asking for this like they still can’t make up their minds. just like torrents aren’t always piracy m3u isn’t always pirate iptv. Some developers don’t drag their feet on implementing features and just put it out there. The interface needs work and they need to as a software developer learn how to pivot more when it comes to development you’d think they were stuck in cement how glacial they go about things.
