Installed the latest updates to Maintenance, Media Player and Remote HD. Now my ATV2 will not function at all. It cycles through the Apple Logo, to black screen, flashing white light, black screen and solid white light, back and forth between the flashing and not so much (the screen flickers like it has a signal, then nothing). Only to repeat the process over again from the Apple Logo.
Attempts to restore in iTunes have failed (with the unit refusing to be seen my iTunes), and no attempt to rejailbreak has worked either. I’ve tried multiple cables, so it’s not that.
Looks like my ATV2 is a brick. Can anyone tell me anything to get this unit working again?
Same thing happened with me today. Used ATV Flash to update to latest, and when I installed the updated Media Player, it killed my ATV2. Now it boots to a black screen. iTunes doesn’t see the device so I’m stuck.
I have the same problem here any help out there
I got my ATV2 working again. I was running an older OS on the ATV2 when I installed the latest update which may have been the problem. I figured out why iTunes wouldn’t recognize my device.
Two problems: My iTunes wasn’t running the latest upgrade, and it wasn’t installing via the automated upgrade. Not sure why it didn’t, but I had to go to the Apple iTunes site, close iTunes, and install the latest program from the Apple site. It updated iTunes software to the latest. I also was plugging in my ATV2 to power while connecting it to my PC. I didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to connect the power cord. Only connect the USB cord to the computer. Don’t connect it to the AC outlet. If the power cord it connected, iTunes won’t recognize the ATV2. I allowed iTunes to upgrade to the latest ATV2 OS since the untethered jailbreak was released a couple of weeks ago.
Once the new OS was installed I had to download the latest jailbreak from SeasonPass. Once jailbroken, you have to connect the ATV2 to your network via Wifi or Ethernet, and then run ATV Flash to install all of their programs. It needs to be connected to power to do this.
Everything is updated and working fine now.
On a Mac, iTunes10.6.3 installed on both systems I’ve tried it on. 2 computers, 2 cables, no power cable, no iTunes access, same black screen. Glad it worked out for you, but I’m still stuck here.
