I have just bought a used Apple TV 2 with 4.4 (3140) software. I want to have an untethered jailbreak and have downloaded seas0npass. Which IPSW version should I select when jail breaking? Can I select 4.4.4?

You cannot upgrade/downgrade to any specific version you wish without having the SHSH blobs. Apple has stopped signing. There is no benefit to use an older tethered version of the new 5.0.1 tethered.
So there is no possibility for untethered version until the 5.0.1 untethered is available?
Correct however there are plans to release an untethered 5.1.1 this week according to www.pod2g.com. Then once it is released FireCore needs to package it up into Seas0nPass and then it can be released.
My ATV 2 is running 5.1.0 is it safe to upgrade to 5.1.1 then? 
I’d make sure to capture your SHSH blobs first.
That’s not possible on a Mac though, is it?
TinyUmbrella is available on OSX. You should try and see if your blob is still available to be cached.
Too late, I updated. I didn’t want to risk apple releasing an update and me not being able to JB. I’ve been waiting two months or so as it is for an untethered 5.1. JB.
