Issue connecting to Jellyfin 10.8 after upgrading

I am still using version 10.8 for jellyfin, why can’t it be compatible? Must it be split? Or keep the old version additions, just like you made two entrances for emby. Otherwise, I can only give up infuse and use other players. I pay because I think infuse is better. Old version users are also your customers, aren’t they?

As a product for sale, a product manager should meet the needs of customers, not do what I think. This makes me feel a little arrogant.

If the Jellyfin devs don’t support that version anymore you can’t expect client apps to support it either

You are right, but jellfyin can provide old version clients to support old version servers,You can’t

I moved your post to an already running thread discussing this issue. You may want to read through to see what’s been covered.

It may be a case of what the Jellyfin developer has made available in the API that Infuse has to use so it’s not just an Infuse problem.

Anyway, if you insist on doing this, I can only say give up using infuse. Anyway, you have so many customers, you don’t need me, right?

First, remember this is a user supported board so most members are just users of Infuse like you.

You may want to note that this thread is tagged as “researching” and if you take the time to read through it you’ll note that the dev is working on a few options.

I know it can be frustrating but hang in there and give them a little time to see what options they can offer.

I understand you. I hope to get a response that you will make changes and work hard to develop a compatible new version and old version instead of asking customers to upgrade the server. I can spend time waiting for your next version to make changes instead of forcing customers to adapt to you.

I just wanted to add my voice as another user affected by this. It would’ve been really helpful to have the option to opt out of the update and keep things running as they were. My setup was already challenging to set up (and it was done so long ago), and I’d prefer not to risk breaking anything. I really hope you’re considering rolling back this patch, giving users the option to update or not.

This is understandable. I cannot upgrade jellyfin without upgrading my entire raspberry pi from debian buster to bookworm. That’s going to be an effort, but that’s on me, not you.

If I may make a suggestion/feature request: would you be able to add version checking and a more descriptive error message letting users know their jellyfin software is out of date? It looks like the version of the software is in the session information returned from the authorization call.

I too cannot connect anymore to my Jellyfin server using Infuse on Apple TV and an iPad. Upgrading Jellyfin would require purchasing a new Mac. This is something I won’t be doing, so I would really appreciate it if the developers continue supporting Jellyfin 10.8.

5 posts were split to a new topic: Using Infuse with or without a media server

How long will it take to wait for the next version to fix this compatibility issue?

We’re working to have the 8.1.8 update of Infuse available on the App Store early next week. This will include fixes for legacy versions of Jellfyin.

Updating to the current version of Jellyfin is still recommend, but I realize this isn’t always practical or possible.

Thanks for your patience.

Just wanted to add that I’m also no longer able to connect to my Jellyfin server (10.8.13) using Infuse on any of my iOS devices. Between work and two toddlers, time is in short supply, so updating the server is not a priority for me at the moment or any time soon. If something goes wrong, I dread the day I need to spend time troubleshooting something as that takes away time I could be helping the wife with the kids. Really appreciate any effort to keep supporting the 10.8.x versions, thanks in advance.

Thank you for your effort. I’ve successfully deployed a newer version of Jellyfin on my new device, and it’s working well. As for the older setup, updating it is challenging since modifying the entire environment poses a significant risk.

We’re submitting Infuse 8.1.8 to Apple today which includes a fix for legacy versions of Jellyfin (pre-10.9).

If you are running a legacy version of Jellyfin and would like to start using 8.1.8 early you can use the link below to install it from TestFlight.

Note: If you are currently part of TestFlight you already have access to this build so please do not use this link.

Thanks James and the rest of the Infuse crew, this is fantastic news. My setup is running again! For me Jellyfin server with Infuse front end is the perfect setup.

This issue should be resolved in today’s 8.1.8 update.

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks so much for the strong engagement @james and the quick fix.

Definitely appreciate the challenges with maintaining backwards compatibility so given how many of us are device locked (and the pain of setting up these stacks) it’s really great you and the team have been able to maintain this support and turn this fix around so quickly.

Thanks again!
