Is there an actual downside to Tethers JB for ATV's?

Hello everyone

I was wondering… if you do a tethered jailbreak with iPhones, iPads or iPod Touch’s, you have to connect it to iTunes whenever you do a reboot of your device. But this isn’t really the case with Apple TV’s since they’re always on or in sleep-mode.

Does that mean that as long as you don’t disconnect the Apple TV from a power outlet, that you effectively never notice any downsides with a Tethered Jailbreak? So as long as your Apple TV is hooked up to a power source and active and/or in sleep-mode, you’ll never run into the downsides of Tethered Jailbreaks?

Thanks for the information  This question has been bugging me for a while now, hehe.

Cheers!

Correct. As long as the power remains connected you won’t see any issues with a tethered jailbreak.

Sleep mode and ‘soft’ restarts (after installing/updating plugins) are ok.

Oh, that’s great news! Thanks for the reply, and I’ll be updating right now

Ok so I get that the sleep mode and soft rest aka respring is ok with a tethered jb.

What about the reboot via nitoTV or by holding menu, down? I have a hunch that its not good with a tethered jb. need to verify though.

Also i noticed that holding select for a few seconds shuts the atv 2 off, is it turning off or going to sleep. Is this ok with a tethered jb?

The reboot option in nitoTV and holding menu + down will restart the AppleTV and require a new tethered boot.

Holding select while at the main menu will put the AppleTV into sleep mode which is ok.
