iPhone - connecting to server takes a minute

A minute is a long time for connecting to a server. I’ve had this issue in numerous Infuse versions. I connect to a Synology NAS, which I added a share for within infuse.

Then browse the share and bookmark a shared folder.

When I then tap on such a shared folder it usually takes a minute or so to show the contents. Once I get that far, navigating to deeper sub folders is quick.

I don’t understand because connecting to this Synology from say a MacBook is instantaneous, even on WiFi. The Synology NAS is all SSD and it’s extremely responsive, albeit over a mere gigabit connection

any clues for troubleshooting this issue?

First make sure that Infuse has completed it’s initial scan by tapping the gear at the bottom then tapping library. Check that it’s completed the scan by the messages at the top of the library screen.

You may check to see if the Smart Folders feature in Infuse is enabled.

Smart Folders has many benefits, but having it on can lead to slower loading of folders in some cases, especially if your folders contain a higher number of items.

Bulls Eye! :grinning_face: I think this may have solved the issue. The library view top section showed that InFuse was retrieving data from the NAS. There were almost 30,000 items to process. First it checked metadata for two hours, then images for 3.5 hours and finally “data” for over four hours. All in all It has taken about 9-10 hours for the scan to complete.

I never knew this step should be completed first. So thank you for your help!

Thank you James :blush: The smart folders feature is enabled in the “Saved folder” (trying to translate back to English from Dutch), it is checked but the option is greyed out.

However after completing the initial scan, as described above, I will first see how things go from here. Thanks for your advice though, I will keep an eye out and experiment disabling the setting when setting up a new Location.
