iPad (2021) won't play Dolby Vision files

Since the post I replied to was moved here, I’m copying my reply from the other thread.

Deleted my first reply because I think I misunderstood. Let me ask a couple more questions, please:

I haven’t used any beta software.

You said it broke in a 7.4.x beta — did you mean a 7.5.4 beta?

I’m not experiencing the issue on my AppleTVs running 7.5.1 — but am on my iPad running 7.5.4.

If Infuse broke after the public release of 7.5.1, but prior to the release of 7.5.4 (which you might have been indicating if it broke in the betas building up to 7.5.4’s public release) but was fixed again prior to or with the public release of 7.5.5, then I shouldn’t have any problem after updating either of my devices.

Is the above correct?

@FLskydiver

Sorry. My mistake.
Profile 5 worked on all 7.5.4 (as far as I’m aware…but see the disclaimer below)
It actually broke on the 7.5.5 (7.5.4431)
Now working again 7.5.5 (7.5.4434)

Disclaimer. I actively avoid profile 5 but tested with some profile 5 releases I had on Dropbox to help confirm what someone else reported.

EDIT.
I should actually be able to test on 7.5.4 if it would help

To be clear, this is profile 5? Level 6?

“Dolby Vision, Version 1., dvhe.05.06, BL+RPU”

Honestly I’ve never paid much attention because everything I threw at Infuse always worked.

I’d appreciate you testing with 7.5.4 because that’s the one not working for me — put per this thread it might just be because of my 9th gen iPad.

Okay. Profile 5.6 confirmed.
(I’m finally doing my homework.)

Was DV not fixed by 7.5.6??

I’ve finally updated my 9th Gen iPad to 7.5.6 (4444) and very disappointed this is still broken for me.

Audio only mode still. Wtaf?

Why does it feel that too much tweaking for edge cases lately keeps breaking things that used to work. I don’t get it. Cardinal rule should be make sure you don’t break the stuff that actually works before releasing any new features or capabilities? :man_facepalming:t2:

That said, the unified TMDB TV genres look fantastic. Thanks for that one, @james .

Sooo …. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m fairly certain I used to be able to watch those programs on my iPad while cooking/cleaning. Do we know what happened yet?

Did you quit cooking and cleaning?

Mostly.

Any progress? Any ideas what’s unique about the 9th gen iPad?

9th gen iPad; still no DV (where it used to work).

Still hoping to hear a progress update.
Nothing on the upcoming features page.

It’s been a while since you commented — are you still experiencing this issue on your 9th gen (2021) iPad?

My experience is exactly as you’ve described …. Infuse is first very slow to load any profile 5 DV content (both on initial playback and on jumping to another point in the timeline); and when playback finally begins, it occurred in a pseudo audio-only mode (with an empty black playback screen).

The same profile 5 DV files play back normally on my five-year older 32gb AppleTV 4K (1st gen, 2017) boxes and 2017 iPhone X.

Yes, it’s still an issue for my 2021 iPad too

Any news regarding the failure of Infuse to playback Profile 5 Dolby Vision on 9th Gen iPad?

I’m gonna keep asking ….

Is this still an active issue? I ask because my son was trying to watch something on his 2021 iPad and had audio but just a black screen. It works fine on his iPhone. Trying to play the same files on Plex gave an error saying Profile 5 not supported.

Yup….

@james I take it that this is not fixable then?

Firecore’s priorities change by the day. Guess there aren’t enough 9th-Gen iPad owners complaining.
