Install guide with samba (not AFP)

I wrote this piece as it might help someone.
At least you do not have to wade through all the topics to find the bits and pieces to get it working.

What i used:
[]MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz Intel Core Duo) MAC OS X 10.5.4[/:m]
[]Apple TV 160GB Software version v2.0 --> updated to v2.1[/:m]
[]ATV Flash v3.2.2[/:m]
[]Philips 37PFL9732D connected to ATV with HDMI mode 1080i[/:m]
[]Conceptronic CH3SNAS 1.5 TB (sw. 1.03), samba shares[/:m]
[]Buffalo Linkstation (sw. v2.0), samba shares [/:m][/list:u]

Goals:
[]enable ssh, scp on the ATV[/:m]
[]mount the NAS shares to the ATV with samba (smb)[/:m]
[]play DVD (.iso) & mp3 stored on both the NAS[/:m][/list:u]

Warning if you use AFP instead of SMB, don’t install the DMG in step #8. It will break it!

Start:
[]read the FlashDriveCreation.pdf and handle accordingly.[/:m]
[]unplug the ATV power cord[/:m]
[]insert usb key in the ATV[/:m]
[]plugin the ATV power cord[/:m]
[]let the ATV Flash program do it job[/:m]
[]remove the usb key and recycle the power[/:m]
[]start the terminal[/:m]
copy the file MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9.Intel.dmg to the ATV with
scp -1 ~/Documents/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.91Intel.dmg frontrow@192.168.1.10:~/Documents/
note 1: the DMG file is located in mine Documents folder
note 2: the response is frontrow
note 3: IP address of the ATV is 192.168.1.10

########### previous installation #########
I have made a SSH connection to the ATV before i restored the ATV.
Hence, the RSA1 key is invalid. You will get the warning message below.
Remove the file ~/.ssh/known_hosts (or the ATV entry in it) on your mac.

[
]On the ATV navigate DVD > Settings > Install Software[/:m]
[
]choose the Install Turbo’s Kextloader [/:m]
[
]choos the Smart Installer

To verify that one can mount a smb share,
type mount at the ATV prompt followed by pressing the TAB key instead of the return key.
It should show:

-bash-2.05b$ mount mount mount_fdesc mount_msdos mount_smbfs mount_volfs mount_devfs mount_hfs mount_nfs mount_synthfs mountd -bash-2.05b$ mount
[/:m]
[
]choose Install mplayer Codecs[/:m]
[
]navigate DVD > Network > Add Manual Share Point

Conceptronic CH3SNAS props:
[]IP address = 192.168.1.9[/:m]
[]workgroup = intranet[/:m]
[]share1 = DVD // read-only for all i.e. guest access[/:m]
[]share2 = DVD-1 // read/write access for me[/:m]
[]share3 = MP3 // read-only for all i.e. guest access[/:m]
[]share4 = MP3-1 // read/write access for me[/:m][/list:u]

Which results in:
[]Mount Name = dvd //can be any name[/:m]
[]Mount Address = 192.168.1.9[/:m]
[]Mount Type = smb[/:m]
[]Require Authentication = No[/:m][/list:u]

Note 1: the Mount Type is not asked, you will have to set this your self.
Note 2: although mine workgroup name is not a standard name, samba will establish a connection.

[
]the share dvd is added to the DVD > Network. The play/pause button will mount this entry. [/*:m][/list:o]

Result:
Movie files stored on the share dvd are now accessible by navigating DVD > Files > dvd.
Opening these files through Media > Sapphire OR Files > Movies, works only with MKS files and not wmf, iso, ts_video files. :?:
ISO formated DVD’s containing DVD menus result in back screen but the menu sound is played.
Random screen sizes i.e. 720 on 1080, next instance correctly.

Playing MP3 files, is a nightmare with DVD > Files.
Cannot stop a mp3 from playing and accidently pressing the play button on a another mp3 file results in sound mix of both.
Stopping it can only be done by rebooting the ATV.
