Infuse crashes during playback on Late 2014 Mac mini

Hi,

I’m having a consistent crash with Infuse on a Late 2014 Mac mini.

System

  • Mac mini (Late 2014)
  • Intel HD Graphics 5000
  • macOS Sequoia 15.7.7 (24G720)
  • OpenCore Legacy Patcher 2.5.1
  • Correct Haswell root patches applied
  • MetallibSupportPkg matches the OS build: 15.7.7-24G720
  • Infuse 8.5.5 (8.5.5752)

Problem

Infuse crashes during playback on multiple different 1080p MKV files, usually around 20–25 seconds after playback starts.

The same files play correctly and smoothly in VLC, so the MKVs themselves appear to be fine.

Things I have already tested

  • Multiple different MKV files
  • AI Upscaling disabled
  • Streaming Cache on Auto and Legacy
  • 1080p output at both 60 Hz and 50 Hz
  • Hardware decoding disabled via:
defaults write com.firecore.infuse disableHardwareDecoding -bool YES
  • Hardware decode override has since been removed
  • Reverted and freshly reapplied the OCLP Haswell root patches
  • Confirmed the installed MetallibSupportPkg exactly matches macOS 15.7.7 build 24G720

Crash details

The crash consistently occurs in the Infuse rendering queue:

CVDisplayLink

com.firecore.renderer.do

with:

EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)

KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000003210

The top frame is:

AppleIntelHD5000GraphicsMTLDriver

IGAccelRenderCommandEncoder::setPipelineState(MTLIGRenderPipelineState*) + 27

I’ve also found another report here involving an Intel HD 5000 Mac with what appears to be the same setPipelineState / 0x3210 crash.

I appreciate that this Mac is running Sequoia via OCLP, so I wanted to mention that upfront as it may be relevant to the patched Haswell Metal stack.

Is this a known compatibility issue between Infuse’s Metal renderer and patched Intel Haswell / HD 5000 graphics?

Is there any alternative renderer, compatibility option, or other workaround that can be enabled in Infuse?

I’m happy to provide the full macOS crash report and Infuse diagnostic report if helpful.
