Infuse 8 - Now Available šŸš€

Hey I just wanted to say I’ve been having infuse for a couple years and this update is the best one I’ve seen, everything feels so premium now, perhaps in the future more themes can be added to change the play color tab to maybe a light grey like Max or black color in addition to the stock orange, but just wanted to give everyone involved props, it looks better then the majority of the streaming apps

Still can’t see the title of what’s playing in MacOS :frowning: guess it will never happen

I’ve used Infuse since the first release. I have patiently been waiting for full and documented support of manual nfo/xml files for movies and series so that I can organize my private or non-official videos and occasional adjust details where I disagree with movie databases.

It cannot be a big job, you already scrape that information from multiple sources today, just not nfo/xml files. You just need to document which parameters you use and we adjust. Adding Vision Pro support must have been a 100x bigger task.

Or do I need to setup a plex-infrastructure just so I can name and organize my movies?

I really don’t like the ā€œnewā€ layout. The previous modern design was better, and now you’ve made the artwork thumbnails smaller. Watching from 10-20 feet away on a 65-inch TV doesn’t look as good anymore—it’s less of a ā€œ10-foot interfaceā€ and not as visually appealing. You should have left an option for users to keep the old layout. I also don’t like the new player controls; now I have to completely retrain myself. Before, pushing down made sense, but now it brings up a pop-up instead of taking me to the options like info, video, audio, and subtitles, which seem pointless now.

Aside from these issues, I haven’t noticed any major differences, but the app feels more difficult to use, which is not an improvement in my opinion. The only thing I do like is the slightly easier access to subtitles and audio from the play bar.

I would give this update a three out of five stars. Previously, the app was a five-star experience, but this is a significant downgrade. You should really give us the option to revert back to the old interface because this feels much more cumbersome now. That said, I do appreciate the faster and smoother playback—4K UHD Blu-ray files load quicker without the progress indicator, and fast forward, rewind, and chapter seeking are more responsive with less buffering.

I can deal with the playback controls, but I really wish the artwork was still as large as it used to be. I understand you’re trying to align with the Apple TV interface, but this change is disappointing, especially for users with poor eyesight, large TVs, or those who sit further back.

error: Could not access external folder

Still unusable for large collections. Thousands of movies on plex and it’s a hell sorting and finding what I want. Nested filters where you quickly can sort by multiple filters example.
Release year (2024-2024) or (2024-2023)
Studio.
Actors.
Genre.

All this and more should quickly and easily be sorted by.

I have over 2000 discs in my collection, currently ripping un recompressed to my 100 TB NAS, currently over 1500 on the server now, I completely understand what you’re saying, it’s the best solution we have so far.

First off, and as always - thanks for the development of this amazing app!

I’ve checked the new design and currently I’ll stick with the modern details view. The reason being the ā€˜Cast & Crew’ sticks up from the bottom of the screen, and you can see the top of the actor portrait…it seem’s a lot less polished than the previously, where you could not see any text or the top of the portrait, and scrolled down to see it…I feel like the new design should be moved down somewhat, so you can’t see ā€˜Cast & Crew’ or the portrait photos, and the rest of the text/buttons could also do with moving down a bit further into the bottom left of the screen.

Apologies for the wonkiness of the following photos…

Found an issue regarding the new theme; the non-percentage or ā€œClassicā€ rating system wasn’t explicitly a ā€œTMDBā€ rating (although it did function as so for movies using online metadata), so the way the new theme works means they are presented, regardless of origin, with a TMDB logo beside them. This can be confusing if you use custom XML and/or use custom ratings.

Edit: Spun off to make discussion easier.

i also have the same issue, when choosing episodes on the new detail view, u cant see the resolution and dynamic range, this is useful when u have 2 video files with different resolution and dynamic range

I like the new player controls and layout (why isn’t it the default, though?)

It was a bit weird that the main gallery wasn’t touched at all - looks identical. Time for a new coat of paint there, don’t you think?

The bug we had with 7.x with the internal subtitles on shows not picking the last selected language (maybe it’s picking them up by index and not by language) is still there :frowning:

I’ve had an active Infuse subscription for about 5 years, but never use it because AFAIK it still doesn’t support a Plex Folder Structure for Extras like Featurettes, Interviews, etc. And AFAIK, there is still no workaround to use that Plex Local Files Folder Structure to access a movie’s Extras from the movie’s startup page.

Is that still correct? If so, I guess I’ll be checking in again when Infuse 9 is released.

Some nice touches in this release. It does feel more like a 7.x.x though over an 8.x

There are optimisations here for sure but really it’s not significant enough to be considered the next major release of a paid app.

I’m going to take a lot of heat for this here but Plex is better in a couple of key areas. The plex design is much better than infuse in every meaningful way. Yes, the new Infuse 8 plays file better than Plex but then the old 7.x version did that too.

I’m quite surprised that there is a focus on Vision OS? How did this get on the roadmap for development? It’s a platform with about 5 users and while having that is certainly a nice to have, it’s not really moving the platform forward.

I recall a promise of a new modular design in V8 and that hasn’t materialised. The current home screen has been around since I started using the app about 5 years ago.

Overall I’d give this release a 4/10 and that’s kinda sad because the team can produce great stuff. I’ll personally be reconsidering my subscription for this when I can use Plex for free. I’d happily pay much more for a better infuse than a free Plex if the look and feel didn’t feel so 2013.

Sure an updated home screen can’t be that big of an ask?

Thanks for posting the comparison pics. I had to switch between the two a few times to absorb the differences. The New theme is just a bit busy/messy for me; the coloured review icons are particularly glaring. The older Modern theme works better with the poster art and is much cleaner for a TV experience.

It is interesting that the New view isn’t enabled by default. I think it is only there for those who want a consistent UI across platforms.

I think a lot of people were expecting more out of v8, but that’s not really how Infuse team operates. If they really wanted one giant release then it would have taken many more months to implement additional items, preventing people from using the new items they did add. But you can expect regular incremental updates from them. Some small, some bigger. This is the way many developers have been moving, even Apple. They used to have iOS *.0 version try to pack everything in. Now they spread it over a full year with new features released every month or two. There is also benefit to releasing to a wider audience sooner to catch bugs that weren’t caught during beta testing.

I have encountered a new issue since updating to Infuse 8 Pro, explained here:

Not a fan of the ā€œNewā€ details view on Apple TV.
The video info and control buttons were just moved up, to center left of screen, and part of the list of videos shows at the bottom of the screen but is cut off. Not clean looking at all.
The old ā€œModernā€ view is much cleaner and proper looking, with full screen of the vid selected thumbnail and vid info/controls bottom left, and having to press down to show the horizontal list of vids.

The added controls to the seek bar, as well as the top bar thing now show sup inplace of the seek bar, i can see how some may find that more useful to them all in one area.

However, i very much liked the very simplistic, very thin, seek bar that Infuse had before. It being very inobtrusive and minimalistic, not covering up anything when it comes up. Now, it is the opposite of that, bloated and cover up things. (this was my one big thing that made me praise Infuse over other players, and used as an example to try and get others to do, a minimalistic seek bar)

Also, pressing down, it is more expected to have the top bar show up at the top of the screen, rather than it showing up on the bottom. Aliek to swipeing on a screen. To make something show up from the bottom, one would swipe up.

For Apple TV…
The modern panel is much better than the new one. I don’t understand how this new one can even be released as an upgrade when it is completely unfinished, as if children made it! Very bad.
The old info panel is better. Why don’t they leave the option for us to use him if we want. The new one is pushed to the bottom left, the cover is smaller, I don’t like it.
There is still no option to disable library refresh at every startup.
In older versions, the player worked much faster.
I am not satisfied with Infuse player.

It does feel like a beta, imo. Not finished. And just a tad sloppy looking. Alignment/spacing issues and such. (unless those are by design?)

I have mainly switched to using CDVR for everything, but keep Infuse Pro around for its SMB type connection to access folders that are things i do not want to add to my whole home DVR library. Infuse also seems to do a tad better with HDR content playback. Infuse also had it a super thing and sleek minimalist seek bar, but not any more.

Just to add to my previous post…Just noticed now when the ā€˜Skip Intro’ button appears on TV shows WHY, OH WHY does everything else pop up with it? I’m talking about the ā€˜Info / Video / Audio / Subtitle’ text along with the Episode Title, Show Name, and Seek Bar…Before it was just the simple, clean ā€˜Skip Into’ button in the bottom right, now half the screen is taken up with clutter…Eek, this in particular is a big dud for me…Hope it can be reverted…I’m sure most people who use Infuse were drawn to it due to the clean, polished look - and this update seems a step backwards.
