We’re excited to announce that Infuse 8.5 is available today, bringing new streaming options, better media server support, and a handful of thoughtful refinements to iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision Pro.

This release introduces transcoding options for Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin, along with improved search results, media server updates, and enhancements to WebDAV and media server connections.

Together, these updates make Infuse even more flexible, reliable, and enjoyable to use with all your favorite videos.

Infuse has long been known for its ability to directly play almost any video format, but there are times when streaming the original file isn’t ideal—especially when watching remotely, using a slower connection, or playing higher-bitrate videos away from home.

With Infuse 8.5, new transcoding options are available for Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin. These options allow Infuse to request an optimized stream from your media server when needed, helping reduce buffering and improve playback reliability when bandwidth is limited.

Direct Play remains the best option whenever possible, but these new controls provide added flexibility when a smaller, server-optimized stream makes more sense.

How to use transcoding

By default, Infuse will continue to play the original video at full quality when pressing Play, without making any changes to the video or audio streams. When a smaller version would be useful, you can long-press the Play button to access the new video Transcoding option and choose from a list of available transcoded versions.

If your server already contains multiple versions of a video you can also use this same flow and select the Version button from the list.

Also, if you prefer to have this prompt appear automatically when pressing Play you can adjust the Transcoding option in Infuse > Settings > Playback.

Improved search results

Search has been refined to provide a more consistent experience across all platforms.

Results are now organized more clearly and predictably, making it easier to find the movie, show, episode, collection, or person you’re looking for.

Love the Loop play option, James. I’ve missed it ever so often.

There is no way anyone who doesn’t read the update/change log, would know the Loop/Transcode option would be under the play menu. Why not have this as an option somewhere in the Video settings like Plex does?

It appears the Apple TV function of holding play to select shuffle is not working anymore after upgrading.

Can you not change the audio tracks when transcoding? It’s not allowing me to change between multiple tracks when i select transcoding. Only defaults to the main track.

Thanks for the great update! And an even bigger thank-you for your remarkable dedication to completely ignoring every Vision Pro–related issue, along with the entire Vision Pro section of your support forum.

Just one small request for the next impressive update: could you please remove all mentions of Vision Pro support from your website? It might otherwise be misleading to new users.

Loop/Shuffle is available from the normal contextual menu for videos (long-press poster or tap 3 dots on details page) and we will probably add Transcode there as well.

Sorry, I should’ve been more specific. Long pressing Play on an entire TV series starts playing at S01E01. I no longer get the context menu to shuffle. However drilling down to an individual season, I am able to long press and shuffle, but only that one season.

Great that this new Transcoding option has been added as I used to have to revert to Plex itself when WiFi is slow when I am away. Just curious, does it offer any benefit/difference than using Plex to do the same? Also for some reason subtitles are not being “transcoded” into the stream and also can not be selected although they are in/with the file.

Does this fix or help with the issue iOS has had with no longer being able to airplay certain formats that used to play fine?

Hi

I’m not sure if you are aware but on TVOS you cannot skip forwards, or backwards if ‘skip mode’ is set to ‘videos’.

Why would you add a much needed feature, if it removes an equally needed feature, it defeats the whole purpose of adding the feature in the first place?!

Hey @james @Empath_1 not sure if you’re aware, but it seems the latest update might’ve broken the episode titles in tvOS. My other devices don’t seem to have this issue.

I have the same issue with episode names on tvOS. Connecting via SMB share of that makes any difference.

The problem appears to occur if you are using the File Browser mode to access TV series.

In Library mode TV episode names are correctly named.

I notice now that director is listed first among cast & crew - thank you for this change, it is a small thing but a huge improvement and resolves my only gripe about Infuse. :folded_hands:

I agree, although I’d really like to have a small divider between cast and crew, or at least between director and the rest of the cast and crew.
