Since the latest update, the Infuse UI has become extremely slow and unresponsive. Navigating through the library is noticeably slower than before, and the interface frequently freezes or takes several seconds to respond.
However, the biggest problem happens while watching a video. When I open the player UI (for example, to access the playback controls, timeline, audio or subtitles), the interface becomes extremely slow and freezes repeatedly. Sometimes it takes several seconds for the UI to respond, and eventually Infuse crashes completely. Right now, I’m unable to use Infuse at all.
This did not happen before the latest update, and the difference is very noticeable.
My setup:
Infuse: 8.5.5
Apple TV: Apple TV 4K (2nd generation)
tvOS: 27
Has anyone else experienced the same issue since the latest update?
Yeah, I have this exact same issue and have had it for a quite a long time, but, it only affects my ATV 4K 2nd Gen (A2169) - my older 1st Gen 4K and both my HD models don’t have this issue.
Video playback is fine, until I bring up the UI to do anything - then it just becomes really laggy, selecting subtitles etc is just near impossible.
I also have two 1st gen Apple TV 4Ks, and this doesn’t happen on them. What sort of solved the issue for me was changing the cache to “Legacy.” It didn’t completely fix it, but it´s much better.
I don’t understand why no one on the Firecore team has looked into this issue yet.
@Marcabru , not sure what OS you’re referencing but AppleTV doesn’t have such an option, the only way to initiate the metadata refresh is from inside the apps settings.
Regarding Legacy vs Auto - the “Auto” and “Legacy” settings dictate where and how the Apple TV buffers video data during playback.
Auto: This default setting uses both the Apple TV’s RAM and its internal flash storage disk to aggressively cache large portions of a file ahead of time. While excellent for buffering remote web streams on unstable internet connections, constantly writing gigabytes of data to the internal disk during high-bitrate local streaming (like 4K Blu-ray rips) can overwhelm the storage controller or trigger tvOS disk-write restrictions. When the disk cannot write fast enough, the network download abruptly halts, causing the flatlining speeds and micro-stuttering you experienced.
Legacy (Memory Only): This setting restricts buffering entirely to the Apple TV’s volatile RAM, keeping a much smaller, rolling cache of the video file. Because RAM is exceptionally fast and bypasses the internal flash storage entirely, it eliminates disk-write bottlenecks. It relies on a continuous, fast local network connection to deliver data in real-time, making it the optimal and most stable choice for high-bandwidth local NAS streaming.
