Infuse 8.4 - Extras, Intros, and Favorites

We’re pleased to announce that Infuse 8.4 is available today, bringing a host of powerful new features and improvements to iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision Pro.

This release introduces support for browsing and playing extras, community-powered skipping for intros and credits, home screen favorites on more devices, and a major upgrade to Infuse’s playback core. Together, these updates make enjoying your library in Infuse better than ever before!

Extras, deleted scenes, trailers, and more

Infuse 8.4 adds support for browsing and playing a variety of additional local content for movies and TV shows, including deleted scenes, featurettes, shorts, trailers, and more.

These extras can be pulled from Emby, Jellyfin, and Plex or from directly connected folders, network shares, and cloud services. When available, these extras will appear directly on the title’s details page, making it easy to discover and enjoy even more from your library without ever having to leave Infuse. Learn more about naming and organizing extras.

Skip intros, credits, and recaps

When binge-watching, nothing should get in the way of the story and now it’s now easy to skip intros, credits, recaps, and more.

This feature is powered by two new — but fast-growing — community-driven databases: IntroDB.app and TheIntroDB.org. Similar to TMDB, which Infuse uses for movie and TV metadata and artwork, these services rely on contributions from the community. Creating a free account and submitting timestamp data helps improve the experience for everyone.

Skip features are available for all share types and can be set to skip automatically or manually. Settings to adjust (or disable) these features can be found in Infuse > Settings > Playback.

Home screen favorites on every platform

Pinning favorites to the Infuse home screen is one of the easiest ways to keep your most-used folders and library categories close at hand. This has long been available on Apple TV, and now it’s available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro as well.

The Favorites row is added by default and can be customized by choosing which favorites appear and where the row is placed on the home screen. Prefer a cleaner look? It can be hidden too.

A supercharged playback core

At the heart of Infuse is a powerful playback engine built to handle just about any video file you throw at it. Today, that playback core receives a major upgrade with a wide range of improvements, fixes, and optimizations.

This update touches nearly every aspect of how Infuse accesses and plays video, resulting in an even better playback experience across the board. Also included is initial support for the relatively new VVC (H.266) codec, which is beginning to appear more frequently in the wild.

Note: VVC decoding is currently handled in software, so performance may vary depending on the device being used.

More improvements throughout

In addition to these major features, Infuse 8.4 includes a number of other enhancements, refinements, and fixes. Be sure to check out the full release notes for a complete look at everything that’s new in this update.

Thanks!

I have “Skip Intros & Credits” enabled, but for some reason the option doesn’t show up on screen when I’m playing a movie. Is there something else I need to do?

So far I’ve tried watching The Revenant, Regretting You, and Stuber, but none of them show the option. I’m using an iPhone with GD as drive.

Diagnostics: 7FRKS

Link not working.

Infuse uses IntroDB.app and TheIntroDB.org for intro and credit timestamps. These sites are fairly new but are growing quite fast, so more and more titles will be available in the coming weeks and months.

Can you explain the naming protocol for extras to appear for movies and tv shows?

Okay, I figure it out that it is like Plex’s naming structure. However, I have noticed that when you add these extras with the main movie file being a “streamlink file.” that the extras will not appear. Is that correct?

How´s the naming structure?

You make a subfolder in your main movie/tv show directory with featurettes, deleted scenes, trailers, extras and then put them in these folders. Refresh and there it will show you. It works great, but was hoping it would work with streamlink files. I owned alot of Apple movies/tv shows and enjoy utilizing streamlink files for these, but your extras (ripped from DVD’s) will not pull into it. James, please let me know if this is intended.

Thank you for the explanation. What should I call the sub folder?

Link has been fixed.

Is it possible to change the favorite artwork as well as re-order favorites on iOS like on the Apple TV?

Not yet, but this will be available soon.

@james I have a row of Recent Films between cast and crew and the extras. Is there a way to have the extras right below cast and crew?

James, will «skip intros» start working without me having to refresh metadata for a show?

Kudos on a very impressive 8.4 release!

Correct. Refreshing/rescanning metadata is not required for skip intros to work.

These are fetched on-the-fly when a movie/show begins playing and are cached for 30 days. If no markers are found for a particular title then Infuse would attempt to fetch markers again the next time that title is played.

@james I see that there’s new metadata settings. Can you explain what those new settings do?

These give you more control over where Infuse pulls its metadata and artwork from.

For example, previously if there was local metadata and artwork Infuse would always pull that in to display in place of data from TMDB. This wasn’t always desired so now you have the option to turn this off.

I have Infuse connected to Plex via Direct, I can see Extras but when I click on them nothing happen.

Also, why my watching row is half smaller than this one in this screenshot?

I’m not sure how this feature works, but I went to the website, checked “Send Help,” and it shows that the intro is approved. However, when I play it on Apple TV or on my iPhone, I don’t see the option to skip the intro or credits.
