Cool to see ambient mode make it in. Testing it out and it generally works pretty well but I do wish it was more reactive since it can be pretty jarring during scene cuts because of its slow reaction time.
Yes I also notice that too. Seed like there is a 1/2s for initial reaction and then a full second before the ambient matches the video.
Unfortunately it isn’t something I would use as many of my 4:3 videos have black bars slivers on left and right edges, and it makes it very obvious when enabling this mode.
Ambiant Mode is awesome! Just one quick thing, would be great if the setting was also in the “Main” app settings page. At least right now, once set on a video, the setting stays on.
I guess there really is a cake for everyone, I really hate ambient mode. Thanks for being a reasonable developer and it being opt-in instead of opt-out. I’ve lost track of how many hours I wasted by turning this off on YouTube.
Ambient mode seems not to be supported in HDR mode? Let me be more specific I have a media file encoded with the following params and the menu option is not displayed:

I don’t believe that was there upon writing my post. Also, for context these are the published release notes on https://firecore.com/releases:
8.3.3 (iOS) released 2025-12-02
NEW
New ‘Ambient Mode’ displays glowing colors in the black bar areas
Transliterate Simplified/Traditional Chinese text for search
Added TMDB details page for deep linked TV series not present in Library
Support color tags in SRT subtitles
Furthermore I have a ticket open for quite some time already regarding ultrawide support in Infuse, Firecore Support. If I switch from windowed to fullscreen the subtitle size is not respected anymore, subs are hardly readable at distance on the ultrawide monitor.
