What’s the difference between the new Limited cache option and the other options?

A post was merged into an existing topic: Update/refresh bug on Infuse Pro 8 on Apple

The new Limited option will have a lower cap on the disk space used for caching, and will cache less of the unplayed portion of the video compared to Auto. This can be useful in cases where bandwidth usage may be a concern.

Here’s an overview of all four settings.

  • Auto - Efficient read-ahead cache using memory and available disk space
  • Limited - Efficient read-ahead cache using memory and limited disk space (for cases where lower initial bandwidth is desired)
  • Memory Only - Efficient read-ahead cache using memory only
  • Legacy - Traditional memory-based caching without any read-ahead capabilities

Auto is still the default (and recommended) option unless you have specific needs or are experiencing issues with playback.

Thank you for your answer.

And where are the new scanning and indexing options? I can’t see them anywhere.

I believe they’re here.

@james hi, out of these 4 streaming cache options, which option put less stress on apple tv hardware ? like very very efficient.
please answer that. i want to choose that option.

There won’t be much of a difference in the CPU load between these caching options.

Some people prefer to avoid using internal storage for caching, so Memory Only would be the best choice if you want to avoid this.

Auto will usually provide the best overall experience and provide the quickest response times when seeking through a video because there will be more data cached on the device.

thankyou so much for the reply.

Auto and Limited slow down Infuse. Whenever I press play or pause or fast forward it takes a few seconds for Infuse to respond and when I exit the movie, the sound is still playing for a few seconds with the screen black. That’s why I use Memory Only. But this problem with Auto and now that it’s also happening with Limited, has been going on for a long time.

We have found there are some unique individual devices (does not apply to all devices of a specific model) which have storage modules that perform below standard benchmarks. This could be due a specific supplier Apple uses or perhaps a specific batch of storage modules, but in these cases switching to Memory Only may perform a bit better.

Thanks for listening to your users concerning the seek bar and redundant options. Looks so much nicer now! And you changed the info panel back to dropping from the top instead of rising from the bottom. Bravo!

Very cool update!

When you say “Skip Intro, Preview, and Credits for Jellyfin 10.10+” does that include recaps and commercials?

Yep! Intro, Preview, and Credits are the main ones, and Infuse will also be able to recognize Recap, Commercials, and Unknown segments if those markers are present in Jellyfin.

Really liking the new playback controls. Feels like a perfect combination of the Apple controls and the Infuse ones.

Nice update !
I do have an issue with the « recently added films » that appears in the detail view below the cast. When pressing down (on Apple TV) is selects automatically the first film and get me out of the current film. My issue is that I can’t reach the bottom of the page anymore to see the file name except if by chance my current film was in the recently added films… anyone else has this issue ? Not sure if the issue was from 8.04 but I’m sure the behavior wasn’t like that some time ago.

Same issue here, but it’s the same across all views.

For example, if I select movie 10 in the Top Rated list. If I scroll to the bottom of the page the last element is the Top Rated scroll bar being displayed again here, but that list is offset by -4. So, when I move the cursor to that scroll bar it selects movie 6, which changes the whole page and shows the filename for the highlighted movie(not the one I’ve already selected from the home screen). To view the filename I have to scroll right by 4 to get back to the movie I previously selected and it will once again show the page and filename for movie 10.

It’s kind of annoying. Besides the filename display, if you hit the down button one too many times you’ve left the page for your selected movie and it’s kind of confusing. You have to either scroll right 4 then up to get back to where you where or back to the home screen and select the same item again. If the scroll bar just wasn’t offset at all it’d be perfect.
