Hi, so I recently upgraded and started with a fresh OS install. If I recall correctly, when I installed Infuse on my other system it automatically set itself as the default video player for files.
It didn’t happen this time, though I’m unsure if it was because I installed IINA before Infuse. Am I right that it sets itself as the default application for video file types or is it supposed to be a manual process?
Hi.
Many ways to do this.
In the Finder, select such a file.
you can right-click and select “open with” to open the file with any capable app, or just drag the file to the app’s icon in the dock or Finder.
To permanently open the file with a certain app, press CMD+I (or select Get Info in the Finder’s menu bar, can’t remember which submenu) then choose the app to always open this file,
To change the default app for all files with the same extension, click on “change all”, “modify all” or “apply to all” (my Macs are not set up with English as a display language)
For video files, do this for the following extensions: .mkv, .mov, .mp4, .m4v etc.
Yeah it’s definitely a set and forget because I don’t remember doing it the first time. IINA has a setting in-app to “Set as default application” that lets you choose Audio, Playlist, and/or Video file types.
Anyways no biggie, I was just wondering. Thanks for the responses.
We adjusted the default file associations back in April to be a little less aggressive. That is, if you have an existing app set for certain files Infuse will no longer take these over.
The steps above described by @jrmec.49364 can be used to adjust file associations for Infuse (as well as other apps).
