Infuse 7.7 - Direct Mode

Add the libraries as favourites which will then display in the Home Screen

Great, thanks for the tip! I’ll try that and see if I like it.

Edit: do you mean in plex or on infuse? Tried starring them in infuse in the share but nothing happened to the Home Screen.

How about unseen stuff? The unseen section is only a library mode row you can add to the home page. Is there a way to have unseen stuff on the home page on direct mode too?

To Infuse, TV series are already “collections” — collections of episodes that make up a series; in essentially the same way a collection of movies makes up a franchise.

The difference is a movie is only one video file (permitting multiple movies to be added to a singular collection) while a TV series is just a different kind of collection (a collection of many episodes; where each episode is usually its own video file).

Hello, James. Regarding the direct connection mode, in addition to the ranking of movies, I have two pain points in use: first, I don’t think the search in direct connection mode is accurate enough; second, in direct connection mode, you can’t search for his related films by clicking on the actor.。

1 what isn’t accurate enough? Can you give examples?
2 search by clicking on actor will come at a later release

I have no clue why you think what you’re talking about has anything at all to do with what I’m asking about.

(Sigh.)

Infuse’s Library mode doesn’t support TV collections because Infuse’s code wasn’t designed to enable it. They need to rewrite the whole thing.

And considering how sidetracked they are now with all this direct mode and VisionOS stuff, it doesn’t look like we can expect that rewrite to be completed anytime soon.

Focusing on a VisionOS app when there is so much more to still be done with the more mainstream iOS and tvOS apps would be a huge mistake.

Good evening, I just wanted to thank you all for Direct Mode. It pretty much resolved the problems I was having with Infuse before and has turned me from a hesitant customer into a permanent customer.

One question, though: The “Currently Watching” list at the top doesn’t update reliably. I was watching a few shows and they only just showed up there last night, and doesn’t always show the next episode to watch (it’s an episode or two behind).

Is this a known bug? When I’m watching a few series its nice to be able to continue watching using that section.

A post was split to a new topic: Remove Infuse Logo in Direct Mode

I’ve been having the same issue for a good 4 or 5 months now and have posted about it, as have others. I was hoping the lack of response I got from Firecore was because of all the work on Direct Mode, which, I thought, would surely fix the issue once and for all. No such luck, which is hugely disappointing.

In fact, Direct Mode only has disadvantages for me, and since it doesn’t fix anything that was broken, I’ve reverted back to Library Mode.

With all the new stuff in the works, will these bugs ever get fixed?

Is this using Direct mode with Plex, Jellyfin or Emby?

Thanks for clarifying!

It is Plex.

However, I think I’m going to retract my complaint, because I signed into Plex directly via a web browser, and the show is missing there too. The problem seems to be on the Plex side, not Infuse.

The results of searching for the same keywords are much worse. Is it because the Chinese search is not perfect?

Hi James

Could you explain what impact these new features will have please? There’s too many different issues raised in this thread to really understand - but my use case is that I have kids movies and kids shows (two separate jellyfin libraries) pinned as favorites in Infuse on my apple TV. We access general content through Infuses library (works fine for us), but the kids content is browsed completely separately.

Will accessing the kids ‘favourites’ work or display differently in 7.7 because of the new Direct Mode features?

The Skip credits button comes up 2x now. Once, at the start of credits, goes away, then comes up again, at the end of the video, after the credits, just before the player closes out.

Now that Direct Mode is released, I would imagine implementing server-specific features for each of the platforms (Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin) would be much easier. These are the things I’d personally like to see:

  • Movie versions (4k, 1080p, theatrical, extended).
  • Move/TV Show extras/bonus features/etc.
  • Transcoding (i.e., to tell the server to transcode video/audio streams). Jellyfin browser already allows you to do this.
  • Option to be more of a “plug-in” for the server. For example, I don’t need a “Jellyfin” icon on Infuse’s home page. Just let me see my moves, tv shows, etc. icons, a list of what I’m currently watching, and newly added content (all re-orderable, of course).
  • Pull more interesting metadata from the server (Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10+, HDR, DTS-HD Master Audio x.1, etc.). Logos would be a nice, too (XBMC had these back in the day).
  • Option to remove movie/show name on the title screen (just need the logo). Honestly, a more iTunes/Apple TV+ theme.
  • On mobile, support mobile setups (Apple TV app does this nicely, and you can pull movie/tv show artwork directly from Apple TV and store on your server).
  • Support for more types of artwork–posters are fine, but “now/continue watching” should use the movie/episode’s screenshot, and an option to use landscape artwork would be nice.
  • Oh, and bring back TV Show seasons. In Direct Mode, those no longer show up (selecting a TV Show goes straight to the episode list).

None of these are hardware or tvOS limitations as far as I know.
