How to use .nfo files

Once again. TMDB decided to place two different movies as the same. This time it is Caligula and Caligula - The Ultimate Cut. So I decided to create an .nfo file for it to override their whims.

I copy/pasted a bunch, restarted Infuse, let it do it’s scanning thing. Found the movie didn’t show up as a movie. Went to Others, selected the file, Edit Metadata, chose the .nfo file and it is still in Others after that?

So…How do they work? How can I get this movie to show up in Movies?

this is the content of the file, inspired by the example given on Infuse’s metadata pages.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
<movie>
    <title>Caligula: The Ultimate Cut</title>
    <sorttitle>Caligula: The Ultimate Cut</sorttitle>
    <imdbid>tt29703523</imdbid>
    <plot>Follows Caligula as he kills his devious adoptive grandfather and takes control of the decadent Roman Empire, spiralling into depravity, devastation, and madness.</plot>
    <mpaa>R</mpaa>
    <genre>Drama</genre>
    <genre>History</genre>
    <genre>Mystery</genre>
    <premiered>2024-08-16</premiered>
    <director>Tinto Brass</director>
    <writer>Gore Vidal</writer>
    <actor>
        <name>Malcolm McDowell/name>
        <role>Caligula</role>
    </actor>
</movie>

Related question: when do I have total control of my library? I don’t care about TMDB (too fickle and volatile), I don’t care about TVDB (though prefer that). I only deal with Trakt. I want 100% connectability with them… I guess the answer is never, as this has been asked hundreds of times before…

A sample nfo file can be found on the following users guide with all of the fields that are currently supported.

well, that didn’t help. As I already said I adapted it from that sample…

I noticed there is a missing open angle bracket in the name closing tag. I wonder if infuse can’t read invalid markup?

Good catch!

It’s recommended to have valid markup for the best results. :slight_smile:

Also, when using NFO files for a title which is present on TMDB you don’t need to manually select the NFO file via Edit Metadata. Infuse can match the title to TMDB to get poster and fanart and automatically display the details from the NFO file in place of the TMDB info.
