How to connect wired headphones to Apple TV 4k?

First off I apologize for the long starting topic. Thinking a audio and video receiver or whatever they are called sorry. No I am not a audio expert far from it. Just do not want to use wireless headphones is all.

Is it possible to have my wired headphones connected to my pc still to at the same time ? So do not have to unplug and replug in ever time? If so how as well ? If I bet anything not going to get anywhere.

Forgot to write projector is BenQ HT3550.

What desktop OS are you using? You can run an AirPlay receiver on your computer: shairport-sync on macOS and Linux, or shairport4w on Windows. You may need to adjust the audio delay depending on the audio format.

Windows 11.

I tried other software that does this and yep sometimes delay but mostly only when pausing and fast forwarding/rewinding. It sucks.

To bad there no way to get rid of that :frowning:

Though I will try this one too just to see if any difference.

Looking at the specs of your projector, it has a headphone out jack. If you are going for the cheapest option then search Amazon for “3.5mm switch” ~$20. An audio switch like that will allow you to leave your headphones plugged into the same jack and then toggle between your input sources, Apple TV and PC.

The more expensive option would be an A/V receiver with a headphone jack that will do the same thing as the switch above but can handle HDMI as well.

Your right the problem is the sound from the headphone out jack on the projector does not go loud enough. I tried connecting my small portable app I use with my pc to see if it would help but did not seem to. If using a 3.5 mm switch would it then use the small portable app still connected to my pc and this time work ?

Second option would most likely work with more loudness though if needed. Hoping I do not have to go that way but if so oh well. Have a old av reciever already not being used but it is old. No HDMI ports at all. So really does not do me any good :frowning:

Connect the Apple TV’s tos-link (fibre) port to a cheap amplified DAC and from there to your headphones.

I don’t think the Apple TV 4k has TOSLINK.

my bad.

Have you tried turning the sound volume all the way up on the projector while the headphones are connected? Sometimes different output sources have different volumes when something is connected.

If you get a 3.5mm switch then it should still work with your portable amp. You would connect your headphones into the amp, the amp into the switch, and then the switch into the output of each device, projector and PC.

Yes. May try again though just to make sure I did not overlook it. Would prefer just having a 3.5mm switch like you said.

Though if I need a A/V receiver with a headphone jack which ones would you recommend please ?

There are many good brands like Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, Sony, Yamaha, etc. You can get a new and cheaper receiver for ~$200. Used ones will be much cheaper and still very functional. Look for one that has support for multiple 4k HDMI inputs and a headphone jack output. The headphone jack might be 6.35mm (1/4 inch) size. You will need a 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter if so, depending what size jack your headphones need.

Thanks.

If I did get a A/V receiver how would I split the sound with my pc and apple tv 4k streaming box ?
