Is there any customisation possible with the home screen?

I would ideally like to lose some of the lines / suggestions / newly added / etc and have it a bit more icon driven (to make it more family friendly). Had a look through the menus but can switch a few things off, but didn’t really see much in the way of customising it to make it more like just a custom video player.
