Probably you do not know what to look for. I am using a XE94 and a VW760, and the problem is clearly visible on both.
Here is an HDR test file that helps to visualize the problem. Look at the HDR ramp from 100 to 1000 nits, the separation is very bad and not bright enough. Played on an UHD Blu-ray player, it looks perfect.
Ah thank you, I see it now. Only just got the Sony XE93 a few days ago and it was already so much brighter than my samsung ks7000. Plugged in the Nvidia Shield TV again and it is much better indeed. Do movies from the itunes store and netflix also have this problem on apple tv 4k or just infuse?
Regardless of the current HDR issues I just wanted to express my complete joy with Infuse. Just played a 4K HDR file of Blade Runner 2049. File is about 64GB running wirelessly over my network. Playback was smooth and the image was crisp as. If this is what it looks like with HDR issues I can’t wait for the fixed version. Amazing work.
It is only a temporary Infuse issue which that play plan to solve in version 5.6.8.
iTunes, Netflix and others render HDR (HDR10 and Dolby Vision) very well on Apple TV 4K.
… but for all players there ist still this problem that seems to be quite difficult to fix:
my infuse also does not take HDR, I’m compared the image of the Samsung player with infuse and in infuse it looks darker, when correct this?
Noticed too that HDR (UHD ISO or Remux file)is not working the same as playing a disc on my Samsung UHD Blu-ray player. The difference is night and day.
When is the ETA of the fix?
Are you using Infuse or also another player to play your UHD ISO or remuxes on the Apple TV?
- Firecore plans to address HDR issues for the next update 5.6.8, so probably in a few weeks. See here: Upcoming Features (updated 2/23/21)
- Since there is also more than probably a tvOS issue, it is in the hands of Apple and I have no idea when they will solve it. If you have an Apple Developer account, you can submit a bug report (I did) on https://bugreport.apple.com . Otherwise, you can submit feedback on the Apple feedback page, which could speed things up. It’s here: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple
Have a great day
I am indeed only using the Infuse Pro app on the Apple TV 4K. I unfortunately don’t have a developer account. I am a home theater enthusiast and I noticed the difference between playing the same movie on disc or playing it’s equivalent on the Apple TV 4K.
Since I am a noob when it comes to technical details involving hdr, what should I ask to Apple?
Don’t do anything. The next Infuse 5.6.8 will hopefully address most HDR issues in a matter of weeks.
And we can hope Apple fixes its part soon too.
I kinda hope the HDR fix will not be pushed back again. Any hopes of getting a release window for the fix? Will make the waiting less hard!
I hope it’s coming soon! Just checked it again properly by comparing a disc with the same movie in he Infuse app. The colors look washed out/dull and the luminance is not so great. I was almost considering buying a new tv, until I popped an UHD Blu-ray in the UHD Blu-ray player. Much brighter awesome colors and great luminance. The disc I have used for this comparison was Planet Earth 2. Amazing and eye popping on disc, a let down on the infuse app (UHD Remux file of the disc).
Will be a great year with the fix of HDR and the Plex integration. Hopefully Dolby Vision will also be enabled.
With the 5.6.7 release. We are definitely on the right track. Details are now visible
I’m tend to say that infuse is best. More color without too much contrast

PS.And nice to see that infuse now detects DTS:X and Dolby Atmos soundtracks. Now we just have to wait on Apple
No it’s not, the colors look washed out on my tv, compared to playing the same file on the in built media player of the OLED B6. Also the brightness is still dim in the Infuse app. I’ve played with the match dynamic range and match frame rate settings enabled and disabled, that did not help either.
I didn’t think they’d changed HDR processing for this release.
I wouldn’t get too wound up about any changes regarding HDR until Firecore releases the version with the HDR changes targeted. If someone has noticed a minor difference then great but the Infuse team has said they are targeting release 5.6.8 ( for now) for the major HDR changes.
Don’t forget you can see the current list of targets here Upcoming Features (updated 2/23/21)
We know that. But some of us are not all negative, and like to report positive feedback
Any idea of when to expect this HDR update? Can’t wait for the Apple TV to be the perfect streamer with the Infuse app! I must say that SDR content with match settings enabled looks stunning!! I am using this app more and more over the Plex app.
Any news, improvement?
