HDR/Dolby Vision PGS subtitles issue

Explain that the iOS version of Infuse has an issue displaying HDR/Dolby Vision PGS subtitles. It seems to incorrectly map the color gamut to SDR, causing the subtitle colors to appear very washed out. Vidhub previously had the same issue, but it has now been fixed and displays correctly. The top image shows the effect in Infuse with incorrect colors, while the bottom image shows the effect in Vidhub with correct colors.

This thread may be of interest. Seems the subtitles were too bright for many.

This may not be the same issue. The post is referring to srt subtitles, where color and brightness should indeed be freely adjustable; otherwise, they would appear too bright under HDR. However, what I’m talking about is PGS graphic effect subtitles, which clearly have a color display error rather than a brightness issue. Even when the brightness is reduced, the color shouldn’t change.

It shouldn’t but it does. HDR brightness should only be applied to srt subtitles but it’s also applied to PGS.

VidHub displays HDR PGS subtitle colors correctly, and Infuse should be able to as well; it’s just that some issue is causing the current display error. I hope James can fix it.
