File size & best way to use Infuse iOS & tvOS together

Hello there

I would like your opinion on how you use the apps together on 2 different devices. I have the following usage.

I watch only TV shows with subtitles always on, currently I have 100 to watch. Most of the time, it’s on my Panasonic 55” OLED TV at home or on my iPhone 6s when flying (very long flights).

I use VLC & mostly 480p files (plus srt downloaded separately, often out of sync) on the iPhone as I have only 15~20 Gb of disk space, while on my TV no issue of disk space so always 1080p or sometimes 2160p.

I understand you can sync the content of your library between devices. But is it possible to lower the quality on a given device?

Is it possible to use it offline, most specifically for the subtitles: I was wondering if it is possible to download them before flying and make them available while offline.

Would it be possible to create 2 distinct libraries: one for “Home” with HD content and a second one with low quality for “flying”, without messing progression on shows & only available for my iPhone?

Not sure if that makes sense, let me know if you want me to clarify.

What you are looking for is transcoding which is only available on plex. Plex also requires a server.

Thanks for your answer. However, I don’t think that answers the use-case. I believe if I download the TV shows in both qualities, it is faster than transcoding, as I have optic fiber 1 Gbps at home.

Wouldn’t be easier to have 2 separate libraries?

Or maybe I can just transfer the files in low quality without syncing with my existing library in HD? Maybe it’s already possible to do that?
I’ll try.

A fairly straightforward option which is ideal for travel is to use a SanDisk iXpand.

This will integrate seamlessly with Infuse, and videos can be played directly or transferred to your device’s internal storage.

Library syncing isn’t going to work for you in this case. It’s one of the reasons I don’t use the library.
I have seperate folders on my NAS. One “Main” folder which contains all my high quality tv/movies. And a “Mobile” folder which contains the lower quality versions.
I then add these folders as favourites in Infuse.

On Apple TV I can then hide the “Mobile” favourite, so I only see the “Main” folder with all the high quality files.
On the phone you can’t hide favourites, so you will both “Main” and “Mobile” favourites, but then a least you can easily download (or watch) from the Mobile library when you want.

OK, thanks. Next time I travel I think I will create a separate folder and sync only the low quality file. I can’t buy the extension because my iPhone 6s has very limited battery life, forgot to change it.

Or I might just travel Business with the laptop next time.
