Yeah, fair enough. Other than their client, which has its own huge shares of issues, and developers who don’t care at all about their users.
I see this is still tagged as “planned” so any roadmap or timeline for it? Maybe in 8.0 later this year? Usually planned features are outlined like I see users/profiles scheduled for 8.0. Just wondering how far down the timeline you guys have this planned.

My personal guess is a design refresh + multi users for 8.0. Something like extra features would be more suited for 8.1/8.2. But that’s just a guess. I’m not an employee nor have access to any super secret schedule.
Given the lack of any updates for 5 years I fear this has been forgotten completely. It’s good that people are speaking up so they know we want this.
Perhaps for v9.0 if we are lucky. But I do find it interesting that the topic has so much activity and is at the top of Suggestions again and again, James has been tagged multiple times in the thread, and there have been absolutely zero feedback from Firecore.
Hello, James. Can we please hear where this feature is on the list of priorities? It seems to be a pretty popular request and you did say 5 years ago that there would be a 2nd part to this that “would be being able to view a list of extras from the video details page.”
Having said that I found something of a workaround that would be a pretty big hassle for users, but I think shows how simple this feature could be to implement. I noticed my new “Extras” folders are not being ignored (is it case sensitive?) and a bunch of versions are showing up on the details page that are actually the special features. I’m unable to try this out right now as I’m copying a large number of files to my share, but what if I renamed them like Army of Darkness {edition-Extras Behind the Scenes}. That would probably show up alongside the various versions of the film. This makes me think implementing a proper feature would be pretty simple.
It’s easy to assume this (about almost any highly-desired feature still lacking from Infuse); but one must instead conclude at this point that adding these ‘simple’ features isn’t anywhere near as easy as we suspect it ought to be (… and rightly ought to be) … or else the work would have been completed long ago (unless Firecore is only choosing to antagonize its long term users for the giggles — which I certainly don’t believe to be the case).
I think the only solution left is Firecore comitting to rewrite the entire codebase from scratch — the parts of it that govern the UI and format the database, at the very least. Too many missing items in the UI that seem ought to be fixable in under 5 minutes with the simple copy-pasting of snippets of code that already express themselves elsewhere in the UI (season picker in up-next list, for example) … and the inability to add even brain-numbingly simple seeming features such as the ability to toggle inversion of the sort order of an already existing sort option (flipping to Z-A from A-Z, or to Oldest-to-Newest from Newest-to-Oldest) just by re-selecting the currently viewed sort-type …
The only thing that makes sense to me is that as new features were randomly shoehorned in on the authors’ fancy, the code, over time, got progressively sloppier; and ultimately unwieldy enough to prevent Firecore’s ability to go back and easily correct or flesh out previously flawed additions or feature-incomplete rollouts.
I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the most often heard exclamations during strategy meetings at Firecore headquarters over the past decade or so has been the development equivalent of “Squirrel!!”.

I think implementing this sounds easier than it is in reality. Technically infuse could do this quickly, but personally I think a larger decision behind this is holding infuse back.
Infuse has been built as a simple point and click solution. You change some settings, let infuse index and enjoy your library. I think this is the appeal for the majority of users. Extras would need manual intervention, changing file names, adding curly brackets with type of extra, etc… on top of that, there is no metadata provider that provides info like this.
This is were it starts to split. I just do not see the majority being interested enough to actually do this. Also what happens support wise. Users see a new feature added and expect infuse to magically do this for them, like it does with indexing.
Next to the above is that infuse mentioned that they are working on a paradigm shift as they call it and want to move more towards being a true player again, hence the further integration (direct mode) with external media servers like emby.
My best bet is that infuse will add extras from those media servers via direct mode but not implement their own “infuse” option. Users that are using one of these media servers are used to spend more time on currating their content and these media servers provide the tools to do so, while infuse does not provide such tools. The majority of infuse users is not willing to tinker with metadata, filenames, etc…
I disagree. I don’t use direct mode for Plex/Emby and so on. I don’t need this feature at all. A lot of my friends don’t use direct mode.
But. Both my friends and I want to have Extra features and the ability to customize the library more flexibly.
Part of this could work if infuse had support for the BluRay/DVD menu.
I was able to try it and it does work. I don’t need metadata for extras myself, I would be happy just to have a folder view pop up showing every file in the “extras” folder.
Yes, technically it already works, see my post 158, but it requires manual work and the infuse implementation breaks compatibility with users that use media servers like emby.
Therfore my bet is still on that infuse will first enable this via direct mode for emby or plex. Maybe later infuse will implement it in their own app but with the same naming scheme as emby or plex and by that ensuring compatibility.
Again, technically there is no issue I guess, it is just finding the implementation that makes the majority that is waiting for this happy.
Oh, I hadn’t seen your post. Thanks! I don’t see any need for Emby or Plex for my situation, so I hope whatever solution eventually comes doesn’t require them.
Hopefully infuse will implement something soon. Preferably in a way that does not break the compatibility with emby. Agree with you that it would be the easiest to just add all contents from a folder called extras. No curly bracket stuff or other manual work.
The way it “works” now is not ideal. In case of many extras you have to scroll left too much. A normal list, like chapters, would make more sense.
If infuse would go that way they would even retain compatibility with emby at least.
A simple list of file names in the extras folder would be just fine for me.
Absolutely. More importantly, I would love to see some sort of indication on the library page that a movie in my library has extras to watch, indicated by something on the poster - like a small red triangle in the corner with a “+” in it or something.
As it is, I have to remember which movies have extras or drill down into each movie’s page to see.
I have need of server side support. I have a 13 year old library, with a lot of sorted extras by Plex standards. I wouldn’t like to have to redo everything.
Hopefully this will be in the pipeline now that Infuse is supposed to recognize multiple versions of a movie - it would seem that the infrastructure is now at least partially in place.
I didn’t realize that was a new feature. Glad they added that, I’ve been using it extensively.
