Exit video player on standby rather than pause

I have a situation I haven’t been able to find discussed anywhere else, so hoping someone can help.

When the Apple TV goes into standby (either via the remote button or the sleep timer) while a video is playing, Infuse pauses playback but keeps the player open. When you wake the Apple TV back up, it resumes right where you left off. That part works perfectly.

The problem comes from having two Apple TVs. Say I’m watching a series on TV A and I fall asleep with the sleep timer on. The next morning I pick it up on TV B, and it starts from the same point that the pause happened without issue. I watch two more episodes on TV B, then turn it off. Later, when I go back to TV A, instead of continuing from where TV B left off, it jumps back to the last position TV A had when it went into standby.

I assume the issue is that Infuse treats standby as a pause rather than a stop. Because the player is still technically “open” on TV A with a saved position, it doesn’t properly sync the updated progress from TV B when you return to it.

Is there a way to make Infuse treat standby as a full stop rather than a pause, similar to how the Netflix app handles it on Apple TV?

There is a ‘Are you still watching?’ feature coming in the next update (8.3.9) which may help with this.

In essence, if Infuse doesn’t detect any user interaction after awhile it will show a prompt to ask if you’re still watching. If no action is taken on this screen after a few minutes (presumably because you are asleep) Infuse would exit playback and return to the video details page.

Thanks James. That does sound like it will resolve my issue. I shall keep an eye out for it.

I do wonder if a setting such as “Standby Behaviour: Pause/Stop” would be a more robust solution but understand thats more of a feature request at this point.

In my case this doesn’t always happen due to auto standby, I’ll sometimes leave a video paused on my laptop and close the lid, watch it on TV then hours later reopen my laptop. If it’s a long video and I didn’t finish it on TV I then curse as infuse resets the playback position to what it is on the laptop.
