DVD Shrink...

I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching through the forum, but still have a few questions…please help point this non-technical guy in the right direction:
I am using the latest version Apple TV with latest version ATV Flash installed. The 160GB ATV internal hard drive is set to sync with my iTunes, the external hard drive will be used for my DVD backups.
I’m going to be using DVDShrink to make an uncompressed backup copy of each DVD that I own…the result will be a movie file for each DVD that contains the subfiles for AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS (if I understand correctly…).

Once these files are on my external hard drive as …_TS files, is my external hard drive “plug’n’play” with the ATV? If no, what else needs to be done? Do I need to convert these files with another software program?
I don’t want to create a “software preference war”, but is there any software that is superior to DVDShrink for what I am doing here?
Thanks in advance for your help…

DVD Shrink should be fine for backing up your DVDs. Once the files are on the external drive they can be accessed and played through the nitoTV → Files menu…no conversion required

A few things that may help.

 1. Smart Installer should be run: http://wiki.atvflash.com/index.php?title=Smart_Installer
 2. External drive must be in a Mac OS or FAT32 format to be used on the AppleTV: http://wiki.atvflash.com/index.php?title=Troubleshooting#AppleTV_is_Not_Recognizing_My_External_Drive
