Dolby Vision setting option not always consistent

How does the InFuse Dolby Vision option (On/Off) work, it doesn’t seem consistent.

What I mean is sometimes a video is flagged as having Dolby Vision and if I play it in an app like VLC on my Mac the green/purple DV is displayed, which makes sense. But if I play that same video using InFuse with DV off (i.e., not selected) either on my Mac or TV (that doesn’t have DV) using Apple TV, sometimes a video plays without the green/purple (good!) but sometimes even though DV is off it plays a different video with the green/purple cast (bad!).

So is there something about how DV is baked into the video that InFuse can’t always disable it (similar to how subtitles can be separate and turned off or burned into the video permanently and not turned off)?

The Dolby Vision option applies to Profile 8 Dolby Vision videos which have both Dolby Vision and HDR content inside.

Other videos (like Profile 5 Dolby Vision) only contain Dolby Vision content so these will always play in Dolby Vision as it cannot be disabled (or there would be simply a black screen).

If you have a device that does not support Dolby Vision then the colors would be tone mapped to HDR or SDR, depending on the device.
