I seem to be suffering from occasional stuttering or compression artifacts on a wide range of divx encoded content. I can rule out network performance because much larger MKV 720p files play fine. I tried deleting other apps and restart lowtide to free memory to no effect. I'm not expecting a fine polish for such an early beta, but I'm interested if anyone has experienced the same stuttering.

I had similar symptoms to you (assuming you are playing the video using XBMC).
Although I thought it could not be a network issue, switching from wireless to wired seems to hvae fixed it for me,
I should have clarified. This is stuttering with the new media player app. All files play fine in XBMC.
This is a known issue. The good news is there will be many playback improvements coming in a future version.
