Hello there
I’m using Infuse Pro with wifi. I can’t use ethernet. I changed router and the wifi speed is worst than before: it starts at 70 Mbps then goes to 30 shortly after (5 seconds). My new router has wifi 7 and I am experiencing a double of speed on all my devices, coming from wifi 5.
FYI, a speedtest on the ATV shows 730 Mbps / 595 Mbps.
What could be the reason for such poor performance?
Do you have a hard drive connected to your router or where is your data stored?
Also, what protocol are you using? (SMB, FTP, Plex, etc)
If SMB what level? (SMB2, SMB3, Legacy)
Are you actually seeing issues like freezing, buffering, or pausing while playing files or are you just concerned about the speed test numbers?
Edit to add:
Also just because your router has WiFi 7 doesn’t mean you get that speed. The fastest ATV is only Wifi 6 and some of the older models have even slower WiFi levels.
Thanks for helping me on this!
- All my file are on a Mac mini. These are Torrents files for TV shows or movies.
- I use SMB, level is Auto.
- I’m seeing buffering for files above 80 GB and/or high bitrate. I always had issues due to my poor wifi 5 but I was expected a better result on wifi 7
- Yes, I am totally aware and fully understand I will never get the maximal speed. First reason is because my Apple TV 4K is not wifi 7, other reasons are interferences, other devices etc etc
The point here is just to try to understand why the speed is lower with the new router. Also, I experienced better speed on all my devices…except Apple TV. What buffles me the most is Speed test on ATV gives different results than the one included in Infuse Pro.
The speed test in Infuse will always be slower than a speed test from the ATV because Infuse builds in overhead for real world things like error correction, video requirements etc.
Another thing to check is to see what WiFi band the ATV is on like 2.4g or 5G often the 5G has shorter range but faster speeds compared to the 2.4 band.
I use 5GHz and before my speed was 70/80, always straight and consistent.
I’d just use a tp-link home plug, HomePlug AV2 standard compliant, high-speed data transfer rates of up to 1300Mbps
there an easy solution for Wi-Fi problems.
I tried Jellybin and the speed is 240/300 Mbps. Looks like I can play the big files. I wonder why the difference.
However, it’s a bit complicated to setup, there are a lot of options. My main issue with Jellybin is that it doesn’t show the nice fancy info of the files like in SMB. Instead, I have a list of files. Is there a way to get the same type of display info like SMB, with the nice displayed info?
I tried WebDAV and it works. I’m at 340 Mbps consistently. I installed WebDAVNav Server on my Mac mini. It was extremely easy to setup. I’m happy with the result.
