Deinterlacing Broken in Infuse 8.4

Infuse 8.4 on ATV with a Jellyfin 10.10.7 share.

After updating to 8.4, de-interlacing doesn’t do anything at all on any of my interlaced media. I’ve tried auto, and every other manual option, and the content is still interlaced with visual combing.

Prior to this update, all my interlaced content was properly de-interlaced without issue; I just kept it on auto. Now every option simply does nothing.

Would you be able to send in a sample file you are seeing issues with?

Sure, I’ve uploaded 3 samples from different sources. Essentially they are all interlaced MPEG-2 mkvs from DVD.

I double checked Jellyfin and it is properly reporting them as interlaced.

Thanks! Will take a look.

I literally just opened a thread about this, believing it’s me who doesn’t know how to use the deinterlacing option or if it is supposed to work (as I haven’t watched any interlaced content prior to v8.4). This gives me hope that it’s a temporary issue rather than a permanent one.

Mod edit: I just merged your other post to this one.

Please don’t judge, I’m new to this.

I have some old DVDs as Remuxes at 576i. MediaInfo shows the tags properly and Infuse applies deinterlacing on them when enabled on a Mac. However, when I play the same files on an Apple TV, the deinterlacing is not applied - no matter what option I choose for deinterlacing.

When browsing my WebDAV, the file in question shows as 576p at 50fps, which is incorrect: the file is in fact 576i at 25fps. However, the same happens on the Mac, but the deinterlacing works there so I’m not sure this matters.

Can anybody explain if I’m doing something wrong and if this is or is not supposed to work?

Thanks!

A fix for this is coming in 8.4.1 which should be out this week.

Great news, cheers!

I’m very puzzled by this thread. Proper deinterlacing has never been available with Infuse for native interlaced content - there is no bob or yadifx2 option, so you always get half frame rate temporal resolution. A vast amount of content out there sourced from DVDs and blu rays that Infuse doesn’t play properly on any platform. People have been posting about this for years.

This thread is a bug report about the currently available de-interlacing options that already exist. They stopped functioning in 8.4. Lack of bob or yadifx2 is a separate matter.

indeed. But given Infuse has never supported correct deinterlacing for native interlaced content, the idea that it could break in 8.4 is amusing, i.e. playback of native interlaced content is temporarily even more unwatchable with Infuse than it was before.

This has been resolved in today’s 8.4.1 update.
