I have a dead ATV2 that won’t give me video/ethernet connectivity. I called Apple Support and they set me up an appointment with the Genius bar. I doubt it will miraculously work for them, but should I un-jailbreak it before bringing it in just in case? I ran the jailbreak restore when it wouldn’t turn on, so there shouldn’t be any signs that it’s been jailbroken. Silly question, but how do you un-jailbreak it? Do I just run the normal Apple restore via itunes?
Yes, simply run the restore through iTunes and let it download the latest iOS version. That will clear all signs of the jailbreak.
Okay. Thanks. I’ll run it before I go in. They said they’d exchange it for another ATV2…I’d like to see that actually happen…
Make sure that you get ATV2, old or refurb…and post.
I will! I just seriously doubt they have ATV2’s lying around. I’ll keep my broken one and sell it on ebay if they try to give me a 3rd gen.
I heard Apple Store do have ATV2 for the broken replacement. Two of my friends demanded and got their brand new in sealed package.
Don’t sell your broken ATV2 on eBay, but if you are intend to sell then please specify broken AS IS.

Why do think it is broken? Check your cables first.
That was my intent if I were to sell it. I’m not out to scam anyone.
I’ve done everything I can think of. I’ve switched out the HDMI cable for a known good one, and the power cable appears to be working since it’s getting power. I’m not getting any picture/sound and the ethernet switch isn’t lit up when I turn the unit on. It appears to be a dead box to me. The apple tech support had me perform a hard reset on both the ATV and TV, and still nothing. Maybe the Apple techs in the store will have more luck? I’d rather just get a replacement if possible, since I’m at a loss for what else to do.

This is to update everyone on the status on my Apple Store adventure. I went there after work today and I explained what happened. They tried plugging it in to their TV and of course, it didn’t work. He said they can just swap it out. I made sure to request a 2nd gen model, he said they had 2 in stock. He went in the back, came back 5 minutes later with a brand new ATV2. He handed it to me and I signed on his ipad and left. I plugged it in when I came home and it works! Firmware 4.4.4. It’s finishing the jailbreak now. I’m super stoked! They also gave me a “digital receipt” and guess how much these guys SHOULD retail for…$59.00. Makes it seem crazy that people are willing to pay $200+ on Ebay. If only Apple knew…
How long have you had the ATV 2? Was it under warranty when took it in?
The ethernet port died on mine yesterday, and I’m curious if they are willing to work with you if it is out of warranty.
Please go visit few Apple Store and some nice manager may exchange it with new one.
If you don’t try then you are not going to find out. Keep trying with other stores who sells ATV 3 as well.
