Would it be possible to add a bit more customization to the Aspect Ratio setting, perhaps as an advanced option?
For example, I have an 11" iPad Pro with a ~1.43:1 screen, and I sometimes watch movies with a 1.5:1 active picture that are stored inside a 16:9 frame on my remuxed 4K discs. At the moment, I can either leave the video as-is and watch it windowboxed, or zoom in and end up cropping some of the active picture on the sides.
If there were a 1.5:1 option, the picture could use almost the full height of the iPad screen while only leaving the small amount of pillarboxing required, without cropping any of the actual image.
Rather than adding individual presets for every possible ratio, would it be feasible to have a custom aspect ratio option where you could enter something like 1.50:1? This could be useful for any content where the active picture is effectively “baked into” a 16:9 container.
Perhaps an advanced setting could even allow more control over how the frame is cropped/positioned for unusual cases, including uneven cropping if needed.
