I’m just going to show my support for this by commenting here.

Put simply dropping TVDB support has caused many headaches and this is the best solution to fixing them and other issues.

Example: 1) TVDB classifies a lot of serial films like Looney Toons as TV shows for sorting purposes which is convenient for those of us who have a lot of classic animation and do not want it in the movies view. In general TMDB’s support for a lot of older series is poor and will take years to catch up. If you’re lucky someone has copied and pasted the TVDB info into TMDB, if you’re unlucky there’s nothing, no description, no actors.

  1. TMDB’s episode ordering doesn’t match what end-users want such as DVD ordering, production/absolute ordering, etc which for a lot of series that were aired out of order by the studios means DVDrips that have corrected the ordering have to be re-ordered into an undesirable order to match TMDB.

Any word on when might move from planned to in-progress?

As Plex playback engine has now transitioned from bad to unusable, I would ditch Plex in a heartbeat and move to using Infuse directly.

However a couple of years in from the transition to TMDB I still have many shows that will scrobble the wrong episode to Trakt.

Being able to use TVDB metadata via .nfo would erase that issue completely.

This has been planned for quite a few years. It should be a priority.

We really need a full solution for local metadata, so we aren’t stuck with whatever TMDB decides.

I would love for NFO to be supported in Kodi/Emby format. Please support this as the rest of my setup supports TVDB while Infuse only supports TMDB.

Are we ever going to get an update on this requested feature? If it’s not going to happen why was it marked as planned?

I hate to trivialise the work but this has existed in kodi and other media players for years and that’s open source.

They actually do, and you can see this by looking at relevant series on their website (Firefly, etc). I don’t know if the problem with Infuse is that TMDB doesn’t provide the alternative episode sequencing via the API Infuse uses, or if Infuse would need to code an interface to allow you to request a different sequencing for the small number of series where this matters. :man_shrugging:t2:

To finally completely bypass the Dependency on TMDB and declare multiple video files in Infuse as Miniseries/Series itself.

Because TMDB is is very unreasonable and inflexible and have completely different/wrong views on what a Miniseries is or isn’t, for example.

I’m assuming this feature is primarily intended for files stored locally. Would there be support for files hosted online as well? If I were to add a video file through the Direct URL option, would I be able to use an NFO/XML file stored locally with that? Or is the use case of this only where both the video file and NFO/XML file are present in the same folder locally / NAS

I’m getting messed up because I created the metadata in TMDB and they deleted all my work, and so I have no way of creating a custom TV “series”. So all the episodes are showing as individual films in Infuse.

Can it really be that there is still no possibility to use local metadata (i.e. artwork, .nfo, …) for TV-shows?
I have read in posts which are a few years old that - at that time - Infuse more or less ignored local metadata for shows.
Is this still true today?

Reaons why I ask:

I have a few fan-made tv-shows and TMDB unfortunately still ignores these kinds of shows (while TheTVDB or IMDB have also this kind of shows)

Example:
The show “Star Trek continues” (IMDB tt2732442, TheTVDB: ID264220)
I have this show in the folder “Star Trek continues”, all the video-files are in the sub-folder “Season 1”
I have both for the show .nfo-files (tvshow.nfo) and also .nfo-file for the episodes (i.e. star trek continues s01e01.mp4 star trek continues s01e01.nfo)
All .nfo-file and all artwork-files are created with TinyMediaManager

However, whatever I have tried - “Star Trek Continues” never appears in “TV-shows” but just the single video-files in “others”.

Info:
I use both on AppleTV and on my iPhone the latest version of Infuse, I have done “update metadata” serval time → no change.

So my question
Is it still not possible to use local metadata or .nfo-file for TV-shows (that would be a pity and would make me more regret that Infuse does not use TheTVDB) or am I just making a mistake?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated
