Still getting frequent crashes. Been happening for a couple of months now, and was hoping those notes that included “fixed famous crashes” or something like that included mine lol
Seems to be getting worse and I finally starting reporting it a couple of weeks ago. Happens on any of all file types/codecs etc
We’re looking into a few remaining reports of this and it appears to be related to cases where the app is restored from the background. It’s a little unclear if this is a system bug (possibly related to a recent system update), background activity of some other app, or some thing else.
As a quick test, would you be able to changing the ‘Streaming Cache’ option (found in Infuse > Settings > Playback) from Auto to Memory Only to see if this has any effect on the issue you are seeing?
Switching to Memory Only would slightly alter how things work when the app is restored from the background which could provide some clues as to what is going on here.
It seems ‘homed’ (related to HomeKit) is the most active process when Infuse is active and it’s a little unclear as to why this may be. We’re not seeing this locally, so it may be something related to your environment or other devices that is potentially conflicting with something in Infuse.
Are you actively using HomeKit? Do you have many actions or triggers set up to run?
As a quick test, can you try disabling HomeKit on this Apple TV to see if the issue still occurs?
its cause i use my appleTV as a homekit hub (the one the crash logs are from), both of my apple TVs are displaying the crashing behaviour (main home hub and non home hub).
I cant turn homekit off, thats my entire home security/baby cam system. Only actions i have is notifcations when something is on my backyard, front hard or rings my door bell via the appleTVs.
This seems very far fetched to me, this was never an issue before and my homekit setup has never changed since the crashing started to occur
makes no difference
sorry for the late reply James, the communications channels are getting blurred here, first we were here, then PM, now back here, was waiting for a message via PM, not this. If this is where you guys are saying the issue is, im screwed? Infuse is basically unusable in this current state for me.
if you want more logs I can give them to you. No other apps on my idevices with infuse on them crash like this.
Any update or should i just keep flooding the thread with crash diag reports?
Infuse js very frustrating to use right now and a little disappointed in the silence as a lifetime liscense purchaser since I’ve been reporting it for months.
Something else I was wondering, do you have any scenes or actions like dimming the lights that you trigger on homekit when you get ready to watch a video?
Another question, are you running any thread devices? Since the ATV can act as a thread hub I was wondering if that may be one of the compounding factors.
I’m just trying to help since HomeKit is one of my hobby interests and if that may be contributing to your problems it may save me in the future.
Why do you think HomeKit is the issue when other apps are not crashing? My HomeKit setup hasn’t changed since the crashing begin. Been the same amount of cameras since way before infuse 8 came out. The crashes also occur on my iPhone and MacBook Pro (I’ve reported those as well) which are not and cannot be homehubs.
I did everything suggested about in regards to HomeKit and troubleshooting. No difference.
I guess I’ll just keep posting each crash diag message.
I don’t have any cameras currently running but considering the LAN bandwidth that video consumes I was just curious.
As to homekit not changing, a little story about one of my windmill I tilted at with a device problem, it turned out to be closing a mini blind near a sensor caused multiple devices to become intermittent. Mini blind was metal slats and when it was opened again all was right with the world.
I can understand the frustration but hang in there, when a dev can’t duplicate a problem it makes it far more difficult to solve. Keep posting the codes and maybe there will be a common factor that comes to light.
Hi @Johnblaze00, I’m another experienced dev, but I don’t work for Firecore. Anyway, I’ve been following along in the discussion here, and I thought I’d chime in on this point in case it helps @james at all.
You said you’re getting crashes on your Apple TV, and on your phone and MacBook Pro.
That seems to draw the issue away from HomeKit, and makes me wonder about the possibility of a hardware or connection (or bandwidth?) issue instead of an issue with HomeKit. The fact that Infuse crashes sounds more software, and maybe there’s an issue where some exception handling could prevent the crash, treating the symptom but potentially still having a playback issue, but if something goes wrong with the playback due to an issue on the device from which the video is being played, or due to the connection between the device where Infuse is running and the device from which the video is being streamed, that seems like it could point to a different issue.
I’m guessing if you encounter an Infuse crash on your phone or MacBook Pro, and you download the same video you were watching to your phone or your MacBook Pro and play it back from the local download, or if you just download and playback that way from the start, that Infuse won’t crash in those scenarios. That’s just a hunch, but if those crashes (Infuse on your phone or MacBook Pro) happen regularly, it might be worth experimenting with that, see if you still encounter a crash – not as a solution to the problem, just as a test.
Anyway, I’m just thinking a little bit out loud here, thought I’d share in case it helps get to the bottom of this issue for you.
something in me thinks it was a connection issue/probnlem between my jellyfin server and infuse.
not sure if bandwidth is an issue, i can watch full 4k DV/HDR content without issues via other apps for hours without crashes (not me, the wife, im dependent on infuse).
the silence is just frustrating, if they cant recreate the issue at least say that… I can try the offline thing (i think my kid watched a 30 minute episode of sesame street once on my old XR that didnt crash).
