Configuration with or without library mode?

Hello,

I have been a long-time Infuse user and I had a question. Since it’s been possible to disable library mode, I tried it, and I feel like everything is worse?! I can’t find a specific topic or article on the matter, and especially about what is recommended or not…

I’ve always used a Synology NAS + Plex. But it seems that since I disabled library mode, I’ve lost some ease of use, especially the automatic categories (like movie genres), etc. Am I mistaken? In my case, is it recommended to reactivate the library? Thank you in advance for your feedback, and long live Infuse!

P.S.: I really like version 8 because the resizing of posters into smaller formats is great.

The way I understand it is that if you are using a sever app like Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin you may get better performance using the direct mode instead of Infuse’s library mode.

Each has it’s benefits. Here’s a post that runs through the options

Yes, but on the other hand, we lose the automatic categories by genre, etc., along with the beautiful images in the thumbnails… That’s why I just switched back to the library version, because I couldn’t find the option in direct mode to have the automatic categories as elegant. The only option is to manually create playlists in Plex, and the thumbnail images are ugly… lol

And that’s why I never ran an additional app for server functions when Infuse by itself gave me all of the bells and whistles and put it in a nice interface. :+1:

Thank you for your feedback

Prior to version 8 I also used Infuse like that. Then I upgraded our NAS and finally had the ability to run Jellyfin. First I was really disappointed how „bare“ Direct Mode felt although there were some noticeable benefits like extremely fast library scanning. I’ve now settled for connecting to my Jellyfin server via library mode since this for me is the best mix of all features. It has the nice library display but still the library scans much faster (not exactly as fast as direct mode but much faster than before) and you can tweak metadata on the Jellyfin server much more precisely!
