First of all, hi to everybody!
I am registered since 10 years, but it is probably the first time I write in this forum.
Hope you can help me solving an issue with my apple TV + Denon AVR2600H (7.1 configuration, or better 5.1.2 with left and right dolby atmos enabled speakers) + Infuse 6 pro
I downloaded few samples of dolby atmos clips. Some of the are trueHD some other DD+
With my denon sound mode set in “DIRECT” or “MULTI CH” I see that the input signal is 7.1 channels but not on the right channels:
input is on central, front, sub, surround, surround back speakers.
as a results the output configuration (active speakers) are only the 5.1 one with elevation speakers stay muted.
Only changing the audio mode to Multi Ch Surround make them working (while the input channels is remaining the same) but this is, as far as i understood, a recalculation the Denon is doing, not a pure channel coming from the source: in fact the helicopter sound of the samples I downloaded is coming out form all the other speakers but the elevation ones.
Of course I followed all the instructions on how to set up audio on Atv and on how to set up my configuration assigning properly amp on my denon.
Strange enough, when I play an atmos movie from Apple+ it sounds perfectly.
If I use Plex i have the same issue of not matching channels passed to the receiver.
Any help will be appreciated.

The dd+ atmos files will be the only ones that actually support atmos. Your receiver should light up with the atmos light. However there are some dd+ files direct from Dolby that do not work with the AppleTV… Dolby screwed up the encoding.
Try it with a webrip that includes a dd+ atmos track.
thanks,
my problem by the way is that I don’t want the av receiver showing me atmos… I would be fine with infuse doing the decoding, but I would like infuse to send channels accordingly to my speaker configuration.
Means: front left, front right, central, sub, rear left, rear right and Atmos elevation speakers (left and right). Infuse send not elevation speakers channel but rear surround ones.
That means that this 2 channels are wasted.
Any thoughts?
If you use direct you’ll lose atmos height as the AppleTV won’t send these. Your amp has to be able to decode the atmos metadata and will need to be in the proper mode to do this.
Ok, tried with a demo in DD+… Receiver shows ATMOS… Atmos height speaker active! Fantastic!
So it is clear to me that the problem is only with TRUE HD.
allow me a straight question then:
From a trueHD file, is there a way LPCM will include channel for atmos height instead of the one for surround back?
Is it limited to the 7.1 surround setup or can infuse be instructed to send a LPCM steam with channel for a 5.1.2 setup?
Thanks
You’ll never get atmos with TrueHD tracks as the AppleTV does not support the output. It’ll use the regular TrueHD soundtrack and convert to LPCM which strips off the atmos data. Unless Apple introduces bitstreaming it’ll likely be this way for quite a while.
If you need TrueHD atmos you’ll need to look at another streaming box such as the nvidia shield
Yes, I actually bought a Shield for that purpose. I
t can also do DTS:X, and has a better picture quality than the ATV 4K. There is a post from my side about that topic.
I need to say, that an Android device can never compete with an ATV in terms of GUI and user experience. Also, Kodi can not compete with Infuse in all these aspects.
Thats why I suggested to bring Infuse to Android.
I got a Shield Tube, which is not that expansive. Other Android devices can not do all the stuff, that the Shield can do. I tried several ones.
Once you crawl through all the complicated adjustments of the shield and Kodi, you get a great Atmos sound and a great picture.
I am sorry to say that. I am an Apple user since more than 30years. But Atmos is a phantastic experience.
Many greets, Gregor
