I have the same problem, brought a brand new Apple TV 2 with Firmware 4.0 and now not sure what to do.
Can someone advise how to jailbreak? I also tried iFaith but just errors.
You need to jailbreak using pwnage tool on a Mac. I am having the same problem but know no one with a Mac. Any chance anyone does that could do one for me? I have the ifaith blob.
I have a mac so could give a try.

use seas0npass 0.9.2 mac version it’s easier to do. it actually has firmware 4.0 (ios 4.1) in the list of firmware available. I don’t know why pc version doesn’t have it.

yes that is the one I know one user on this forum was able to successfully use it to jailbreak version 4.0
dknlght i tried using mac 0.9.2 ifaith ver it does have the ipsw firmware ios 4.1-8m89 but fail to save the blobs so can not jailbreak it at all . what m i doing wrong then mi stuck with this version . ? im hoping unthetered jailbreak . thx

seasonpass will for some odd reason not save shsh from 4.0 ios 4.1.tried with seasonpass 0.9.2 beta and tried with the new one on pc.which does not support 4.0.im out of suggestions and i really do not wanna upgrade.does someone have a solution.ive also tried pwange tool and it says the firmware bundle is not available.finally managed to save or at least i think it saved in tiny umbrella.only way to do that was to leave the power adapter plugged while performing the task
We are f******ed up. No seasonpass has the 4.0 iOS 4.1 suported in window ver.
The only one is 0.9.2 beta but for Mac.
And it will not work for Mac.
ifaith 1.4.2 will save your shsh blobs.but snowbreeze will not creat a signed ipsw.i guess the only option people stuck on 4.0 is to upgrade to 5.3 and do a tethered jailbreak and wait for an untethered.ive tried green poison pwanage tool ifaith,nothing jailbreaks this puppy
Just update to 5.3 and jailbreak.
I spent hours trying to jailbreak 4.0 using PC and MAC and nothing could do it
We know that’s last resort. But we r holding maybe we can do it untethered by keeping 4.0
Maybe a lame a$$ answer but you can try finding whatever versions of ifaith, seasonpass, etc. were being used during the 4.0 jailbreak and use those, after all, it worked then. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of finding those then you’ll just have to wait for the next untethered jailbreak.

Nor can I and I have to say that I am becoming somewhat narked by this.
James’ list of versions says 4.0 (iOS 4.1) is untethered so if we have bought ATV2 on vesion 4.0 on the strength of that I think I’m justified in feeling narked.
I am at a loss to understand why we cannot have a link (from staff) to a version of SP that will enable the creation of even a non-blob stiched 4.0 IPSW - just a plain vanilla file with the patch would do, then one could make the necessary iFaith IPSW in TotalCommander.
Here’s an ideal, James never wrote seasonpass worked on the jailbreak he’s just given us a reference we can use. why don’t you simple find out what tool was used to jail break 4.0 and go from there? If you don’t want to do the work simple pay someone to do it , or just update to 5.3 you guys are acting like you are paying for this
I certainly paid for the ATVFlash though, thou who knowest all.
