On macOS it would be a better user experience to not have buttons positioned near the top corners of the display, as this is what also triggers the menu bar appearance in full screen mode. About half the time when I’m either trying to close a video or refresh metadata, I trigger the menu bar instead:

There isn’t a shortcut for refreshing the library right now, but ESC will exit playback.
Not exactly: ESC will exit full screen mode (which isn’t desired), then if pressed a second time will exit playback.

It is; what I meant is that there can’t be an expectation to be able to use ESC to stop playback in that context as this would first exit full screen mode (which I prefer not to do).
