Brief brightness spikes during Dolby Vision playback on scene changes

Hello Guys,

I’m having a problem with my setup. Whenever I play Dolby Vision content, I consistently observe brief brightness spikes/maxing out for a fraction of a second during scene transitions. While the duration is very short, it is clearly noticeable to my eyes during normal playback.

To verify this, I recorded the screen using my phone at 240 fps, where the brightness spike is clearly visible frame-by-frame.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Download [this file] (this is the exact same file I’m playing on the recording) and go to the 3:55 mark

  2. Observe brightness behavior during scene changes.

Additional Testing:

  • The same exact file was tested in KS Player, where playback was normal and no brightness flashing occurred.

  • This suggests the issue may be specific to Infuse’s Dolby Vision playback pipeline, rather than the file itself.

Notes:
Btw, I’m not a very technical guy, so my assumption may be incorrect, but based on my testing, this appears to be an Infuse-specific issue. And again, I could be wrong.

Edit: My TV Model is TCL 55C6K.

Okay, I fixed the file

Fair enough but know one is gonna look anyways + it’s encrypted as well

There is a documented way to submit video files to FireCore for them to review which you may want to use: Submitting Video Samples – Firecore Support

I noticed this issue as well recently (on Infuse for VisionOS). Did not look into it much, thought it was an issue with the file. Hope it won‘t come up regularly now…

I had a strike of HDR10+ (including native from AppleTV) spiking at random moments as of recently, though it was a bad Hybrid one time, but when Apple and Amazon had the same (although minor symptoms) on my SB95 - now I think it might be connected to a recent release
