Blu-ray and DVD menus

I have to say that Apple tv is currently the best set-top box in the world, and of course infuse is the best player I have ever used.
It is worth mentioning that Infuse can already perfectly identify all iso or Blu-ray original files containing BDMV folders.
The only fly in the ointment is that when I need to play .iso format files or Blu-ray original disc files containing BDMV folders, Infuse still cannot perfectly support the Blu-ray navigation menu.
This is the bit that really annoys me.
I sincerely hope that the developer can update the new features to support infuse to perfectly display the Blu-ray navigation menu.
This will make the Infuse APP truly a flawless alternative to any traditional Blu-ray player

I agree with you

Up!!! I need this improvement

It’s a curious thing to me how many folks miss the ability to navigate disc menus when I have long felt them cumbersome and simply standing in the way between me and the content I actually wanted to watch (and those ubiquitous ā€œFBIā€ ā€˜copy this and go to jail!’ — warnings? Gah!) … I can’t recall spending any time browsing disc menus since the days of the info-heavy DVDs (when DVSs were still a new thing) for the Matrix, Terminator 2 and The Abyss.

Admittedly, there’s been a lot of time for developers to update their menu game since then. At the risk of making @NC_Bullseye split this into a different thread if this post gets responses, anyone have any suggestions for really great disc menus I’d want to check out?

Older info-heavy DVDs are the argument for this feature, in my mind. There’s content on plenty of DVDs, not necessarily films but music concerts/videos, or some TV series, that it’d be a lot more work to manage separately in your library, than just to have integrated with the rest of the disc’s content — like clips of individual songs, added to a concert video. Plenty of music discs would fit this bill; for TV shows, my memory is that ā€œMonty Python’s Flying Circusā€ had a goofily intricate menu system, with easter eggs and gags.
So the argument is actually maybe historical preservation: discs are fragile and players are only going to get harder to come by, and there’s a growing pile of 20+ year old media that we’re going to be losing the ability to experience.

Point well made. Thanks. :+1:t3:

This! Music video collections are impossible to watch without their menus.

Renaming existing chapters would be a good start especially for concert videos / Blu Rays. As a next step Define or rename chapters in videos should be possible to add more chapters.

Having the Bluray / 4K menu system kick in just like you were playing directly from a bluray or 4k player would be the icing on the cake for Infuse 7.
It would stop you having to jump through all the title tracks looking for the specific content you are trying to play rather than playing the guessing game as you sit there playing one track after another until you find what you are looking for.

If made possible, you could have this as an options in the config menu to provide the choice to have / not have for the people that don’t want to see the menu navigation.

I for one would love to see it.

Don’t forget that you need to click the like button on the first post in this thread to show your support for this suggestion!

I don’t think the DVD titles and chapters are loading properly either. Using the video menu would work OK as a workaround if they were. I have complete Seinfeld DVDs backed up and when I load them in VLC I can see all the Titles, but in Infuse there are only a few, with one of them being huge. Please let me know if you’d like more debugging information.

I don’t use DVD rips anymore, but just in case, might be worth checking the status of the ā€œSettings / Playback / Chapter Controlsā€ toggle.

Hey @FLskydiver, thanks for the idea, but that just allows you to jump between Chapters I think. My problem is Firecore isn’t seeing the Titles properly. Here are screenshots comparing what Firecore sees on the AppleTV vs. VLC on my Mac for the same DVD:

Infuse does not support reading ifo files in DVD ISO files, and there is no way to accurately identify the main video. Many users who use infuse have a certain pursuit of movies. The iso file is very suitable for collection, and many users will choose the iso file. I hope it can be adapted. For example, kodi supports it, and even kodi can call up the menu directory of dvdiso files. Although dvdiso is a niche and unpopular format, I believe many users still have some needs. Otherwise, when reading dvdiso files, users can only choose other players. I have always thought that infuse is a powerful and comprehensive player. I hope infuse can do better and better!

Since Infuse is capable of playing ISO files, how hard is it to implement Infuse to play that ISO file with menu, etc? Is it due to java type issues? Is it a massive ask due to programing? Or is it a fairly simple task to implement but just hasn’t made it to fruition yet?

Hope to start some discussion on this since I’m sure many others would like to see this. Thanks!

It’s not easy since BDs and UHDBRs use Java menus. It took years for Kodi to implement them and nothing on the AppleTV has that capability as far as I know. Of it was easy it would be done, as you can see from this long standing request it’s a popular ā€œwantā€, but it’s not just something you flip a switch for.

Java is one of those things only supported on the mac and there isn’t going to be a huge development effort to support it for a single platform. Not everyone has the same JRE anyways which can make things more challenging

Are there any news on Blu Ray and DVD menu support for BDMV and ISOs?

Im a convert from Kodi. I love Infuse’s ability to play ISO seamlessly. But I do miss the menus on some of the ISO’s, can you make it an option to play it menu style too?

No. On DVD/BluRay discs, the menu is built in Java. There is no such language for Apple. Therefore, there is no menu to make.
