Black screen with DoVi P8 on Apple TV 4k 2022

Hi no the problem I have is only from YTS

So I would try to source some.
All my HDR/Dolby Vision files come from probably 10-20 different release groups. I have never had this issue with any of them.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any YTS releases to look into it further.

PM’d you

I am in the same boat …
Some media files playing flawlessly on latest infuse for MacOS but getting only black screen and audio on latest infuse ( updated today ) on my iPhone 14Pro Max.

Here’s an example:

I tried on my Mac, 2x Apple TVs ( old 4K ) and everyoneplay the file correctly, only my ipad and iPhone refuse to display the video part.

:frowning:

PS: it’s definitively something related to Dolby Vision because when I play other media that are not reported “DV” , although using BT.709

Wait for the release of tvOS 17 and infuse 7.6.1. And your problem will be solved.

It’s yet another file from the same release group YTS) that everyone else with the issue has been using.
With BT709 in a Dolby Vision file I’m not convinced they will work even with native OS support.
Those files are funky.

I can’t believe all of our totally legal YTS backups aren’t working…

I can confirm that the same issue exists for files in my library too.

Below is the video info (MKV container):
Video

Color range : Limited

The playback only works on my MacBook Pro with M2 Max. The devices it fails on are:

  • Apple TV 4K
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPad Air 4th Generation

It would be nice if someone from the team could tell the technical details of why the playback fails on said devices but works fine on mac.

All the devices are running on latest version of the OSes (iOS,iPadOS,tvOS 17 and macOS Sonoma) and Infuse (7.6.4523).

Regards

Again, these are SDR colors purporting to be DV content. Find better sources, people.

Has there been any progress with this?

Again if your files are from the YTS group then there probably never will be. They’re horrific released from a release group who have no idea how to encode.

As the post above you’re said…find better releases.

If your files aren’t from that release group then please post a mediainfo.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Dolby Vision Profile 7 & 8 support (.ts/.mkv files)

I Agree with you @Hitsville but allow me to say that it doesn’t explain why the same file play correctly in the MacOS infuse version …
Either it works everywhere ( every app version ) or it shouldn’t work at all, I don’t understand what’s the different between the MacOS version and the iOS version on this for example.
-Thanks

Video processing hardware and firmware could very well be playing a part.

I recently downloaded a movie which contains Dolby Vision information … Infuse displays a DV indicator. The film plays fine on my Mac or iPhone, but when playing on the Apple TV, which is hooked up to my Samsung television, I hear the sound but don’t see any picture. When I scrub back and forth I see the picture in the thumbnail which shows where I’m scrubbing to, but the rest of the screen is black.

I’m assuming this issue arises because Infuse is sending DV to the TV, but the Samsung TV doesn’t understand DV. Can I prevent Infuse sending DV to the TV? Or is there an automatic negotiation which is supposed to happen? Or do I need to remove DV from the movie file itself?

Moved your post to a thread discussing this and it’s being researched.

Try setting “Extended Dolby Vision” to “off” in the Infuse settings, it should then play as HDR on your Samsung TV.

That resolves the issue for some 4K DV titles, but not all of them. I only have a handful of DV titles so only small sample size.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

When I play any Dolby Vision content on my Apple TV via infuse I only get a black screen although I do have audio.

I have researched the problem a bit on the fire core forums but none of the solutions work. I have a super fast hdmi cable.

I have tried all 3 of the extended Dolby playback settings in infuse, nothing helped all had black screen and just audio.

I have tried changing the match frame and dynamic range settings. No luck with that either.

Also tried changing chroma settings, no luck.

I have tried this same video file via my Mac using infuse and it plays fine.

I have also tried playing this file through my Apple TV with Plex. It does play with audio but the colour profile is messed up and everything is red.

Any help would be great appreciated.

Many thanks.
